Between them now and the local charity there is a fair bit of dark clouds over them. Where there is cash there is deceit

Is anyone surprised really? I've no doubt this is happening in every council across the country.

They'd want to look into the Regeneration that's for sure.

Not surprised really. Like most cities Limerick has a circle of those in the know who look after one another. One solicitor once told me more deals for public funds have been struck in the interval of operas in UCH or half time at heineken cup games in Thomond Park than in the council offices.

Regeneration will be a real can of worms when they eventually look into it. Hundreds of millions spent and not really a lot to show for it beyond a few pedestrian streets and relatively few houses built. The taxpayer now owns half the city center either through the council or the university and payed handsomely for it. And that city of culture lark a few years back. Again millions spent and pretty much little or nothing actually staged.

There is a relatively small number of people involved but they are very very influential. The only thing that's surprising is one of them got caught and it was clearly so bad none of the rest of them could get him/her out of it.

Hopefully it's not a case of the enquiry costing multiples of the money defrauded.
