    Hi all,

Given there's been lots of questions coming up across multiple threads about PS5 pre-orders, I thought it might be handy to get all the info together in one place. Please feel free to suggest any amendments or changes below, and I'll update as needed.

If you want to discuss anything below please use this thread: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2058119473

When is the PS5 out in Ireland?

Thursday November 19th, a week after the US.

What are the two models of PS5?

The €400 and €500 models are very similar except for the more expensive one has an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. What this means in practice is that you won't be able to buy disc-based games or play 4K Blu-Ray discs on the cheaper, digital-only model. You will be relying on the Playstation Store to buy games. However, the two models are otherwise identical in tech specs.

Can I pre-order a PS5 in Ireland for launch day?

Unlikely as of writing. Major retailers such as Smyths, Gamestop, Amazon and PC World / Currys no longer have pre-order stock available. Some retailers such as Gamestop are also not guaranteeing all pre-ordered consoles for launch day.

Some smaller online or local retailers may have stock available, but that's increasingly unlikely as we head towards November. Do ensure the retailer is trustworthy and reliable before ordering. Feel free to ask here if you have any questions or doubts: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2058119473

Will there be PS5s available in stores on launch day?

Very possible, but we don't know exactly where or how many just yet. Some significant retailers such as Argos have not taken pre-orders, so they're likely to have consoles available on the day. Smyths has also said they hope to have some machines available to buy, but there are no guarantees yet. Stock is likely to be limited in any case.

Be aware current coronavirus restrictions mean you will not be able to walk into most shops and ask for a console on the day, so you'll likely need to order online.

How will level five impact collecting a PS5?

If you're lucky enough to have a PS5 ordered, there may be some complications due to the current level five lockdown and 5km travel limit.

While non-essential retail stores are closed, they can continue offering click and collect services where applicable.

If you've ordered for delivery, your console should arrive without issue.

Smyths stores are offering click and collect services on the day, while anyone who can't travel can nominate someone else to collect the console for them. Anyone who can't avail of those options will be able to collect their console in the two days after the lockdown period. More info here: https://www.smythstoys.com/ie/en-ie/covid-19-store-policy

A small number of Gamestop stores are offering click and collect. The retailer will contact any other customers to determine the next steps. More details are available on their website: https://www.gamestop.ie/covid-19-updates

PC World and Argos stores remain open, the latter for click and collect only.

Will there be further shipments of PS5 consoles before Christmas?

Unfortunately, we don't know yet, but it is inevitable there'll be extra availability in the weeks and months after launch. Exact timelines aren't clear at the moment.

While it can be frustrating not being able to secure a console, this is alas a frequent issue with console launches - the same issues are likely with the new Xbox consoles. Stock is likely to stabilise some time in 2021.
