Podium ceremony delayed. There is a Stewart inquiry over the incident

    Double shoulder as well.

To be fair, It doesn't look great

Could be in trouble alright, Bora would love that.

First time Bennett shows a bit of attitude in a GT sprint and he could end up being DQ'd.

    Sh1te, it doesn't.

    edit...he's been relegated :(

That first bump could have brought the Trek guy down. Had no effect on the stage result, but the optics are not good. Could be made an example of by the comms.

    DQ'd https://racecenter.lavuelta.es/en/
    Pascal Ackermann wins stage 8

    16:41

Sam Bennett was relegated for irregular sprinting.

That should probably say stage 9

Is that not a harsh DQ? Any chance of appealing that?

Absolute load of bollocks. The UAE rider is entering Sam's line and trying to push him off the wheel in front, and the only place to go is into the barriers. You're lying to yourself if you think that UAE rider was not going to continue pushing across. What is the alternative? Brake? Hit the barriers?

Edit: the other rider was Liepiņš from Trek, not UAE.

No disagreement about the DQ from me. You can't expect to bully another rider like that and get away with it nowadays with HD footage of every meter of the run to the line.

Agreed, to me it looks aggressive rather than defensive.

Sagan got done from something similar in the TdF so completely consistent from the comms.

Thought it looked bad at the time tbh. He would've got away with one I think, but going back for a second go looked OTT.

    Ackermann...
"When I saw the video, it wasn't a fair action from him. I think, after all the crashes in the last week, we have to take care of the other guys. If there is no hole, we have to stop. I feel sorry for Sam, but they took me out in Scheldeprijs and now we have to ride more fair. I'm really happy about this victory and also for my team, they did an awesome job today, they did it all from the front and I'm happy to give something back to them."

    Ackermann...
    Can FRO!

Think he might have got away with the first one. The second makes it easy for the jury

Funny reading Ackermann saying he’s happy to deliver for the team though. Take the win and be quiet would be my suggestion

Ah FFS, Kelly must be turning in his hotel room bed.

Well done Sam. Time for RTE Sport to look up his position in the GC.

    Sam Martin according to rte

Generally, when Lefevere goes on a rage-fuelled offensive like that, its a sign he's in the wrong.

Yeah gutted to hear that buts it's consistent with other decisions so no complaints about it.

Is there an appeals process in place for these kind of decisions?

    No

Harsh . Ackerman should have said nothing. Only one way to reply to that Sam ;)

How many more opportunities does he have to reply to that though? Chances for sprinters in this Vuelta are few and far between it seems.

The win wouldn't have made the six one news, but I bet the DQ does!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,618 ✭✭✭happytramp

    Any chance for Sam tomorrow?

  • Registered Users Posts: 26,178 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

We all know what the Trek lad was up to but Sam makes a huge lunge across to hit him and its way too obvious and aggressive not to get a DQ.
i think I would be a lot less annoyed if it was Ewan or Ackermann he hit but he is after getting Dqed over a fight with some nobody who came 13th
