No chance of “reassignment “ by the sounds of it

Perhaps I should have been more specific..
If for example, you get assigned a 12 week contract in Revenue. That 12 week period comes to an end. The contract is not renewed.
Are you eliminated from participation in future TCO/ CO competitions because your contract was not renewed in the above scenario?
If you apply, and are successful at being assigned to a department, will you automatically be assigned to a completely different department to your first assignment?

    Hi all,

    Just a question,

Say you are offered a TCO contract for a minimum number of weeks, and the contract ends and is not renewed , is a person eliminated from participating in further TCO/ CO competitions in the future?
What are the chances of being reassigned to another department to their original job assignment?
    Thank you.

Your out of that years tco list. The CO competitions are a different campaign and are totally separate

As for being extended it’s very very unlikely. Will things change with the covid, perhaps I don’t honestly know but I would keep breath in the interim.

Pay little attention to stories on here of people being kept on they give you a false impression.

Yes as soon as you take a contract you are eliminated from future tco positions for that year. Now if for some reason revenue or whoever else’s back out they are obliged to reinstate you on the tco list.

I can tell you now that revenue do not do extensions because their HR dept are utterly useless.

Thanks. I just finished my 8 week TCO contract. My contract wasnt extended unfortunately.
I was recruited from the 2020 Temporary Clerical Officer campaign.
Just wondering am I free to apply for the 2021 permanent CO campaign or am I ineligible as my TCO contract wasnt renewed?

Yes. You can apply for the CO campaign even if you are a tco. The two campaigns have nothing to do with each other and a

Just to reiterate renewals of Tco contracts are very very very very unlikely please keep that in mind from now on no matter what you read on hear and they have absolutely nothing to do with the clerical officer campaign.

Is there any particular reason why you didn't believe me?

I mean I told you about the Permanent CO coming up in 2021 back in December, and I encouraged you to apply when it does comes up.

Having your contract extended rarely happens. When you're given a contract for a number of week/months, that's all you can expect to get. Just because your contract wasn't extended doesn't mean you're eliminated from further campaigns. It's by no means indicative of your quality of work.

You can apply for TCO every year and you get your set number of weeks/months if they reach your number. As far as I know (and I'm open to correction) the CO campaigns have a much higher number of applications so it's harder to get a contract.

Id agree. Entered both competitions and my oom for the permanent competition is more then double that of the temporary.

My number for the permanent campaign was absolutely abysmal compared to what I scored for TCO. I can't fathom it at all, I would have given the same answers (more or less) for both.

I did read somewhere that those from the previous campaign who were offered jobs and had them rescinded due to covid were put back on the list in front of the current campaign applicants. Don't know how true that is but I choose to believe it so that I don't feel as bad about my OOM :D And I don't need anyone telling me it's not true :p

No point about being hard on yourself about it. I got a good solid decent score, but I'm way, way down on oom also. I'm guessing there was just a absolutely huge amount of people applied last time around. Very hard to judge mid pandemic times to anything else really.

I got nearly exactly the same OOM in the permanent and temporary campaigns. Guess I'm quite consistent

A temporary contract in the civil service is neve going to be a permanent job if a permanent job is a goal then getting a temporary contract clerical job through a recruitment agency in the wider public services as opposed to the civil services, and applying for any internal roles that come up is a better way to go.

Hi, I done the interview. I had prepared the compentenices and had my examples ready but in my interview they chose the workplace they wanted me to give the example for. This completely threw me but I explained that I had a better example in another workplace that showed this competency. They are very nice and they explain the interview before they begin. I was asked about my biggest achievement, GDPR, challenges I face working remotely. Overall it is a good interview process and I received my results the next day. B

Best of luck to you, don't be nervous!

    Hi,

Had the interview this morning - very nice interviewers.

    Some questions I was asked:
    • Give examples of managing/processing large quantities of data.
    • In your opinion, what makes a good team?
    • What do you know about GDPR?
    • What skills can you bring to the team?
    • How do you send e-mails to groups but hiding the names of the other recipients?
    • Give an example of how you dealt with an angry customer/member of the public.

Hope they might help best of luck! PS: Thanks all for the tips on here.

Thanks a million Siofra :) Did they say when the results of the interview will be announced ? Does anyone know what the turnaround time is after the interview in order to get results/order of merit?

As far as I know, the order of merit doesn't change after your interview, so if you pass it, you're still at the same panel number. For results, I may have misheard this at the end of the interview, but they mentioned first week of Feb but this may have been the date they start assinging placements - I was in a bit of a daze at the end and relieved it was over so I might be wrong! I'll keep you posted if I hear anything or maybe someone else might have a better idea. Best of luck.

The date they gave was for result of interview. Placements tend to come from the department who you will be going to. Eg:revenue have rang me twice for my last 2 placements. You can call tco recruitment regarding the number they have got to in your area. They are very friendly and helpful when you call or email them

Hi all, for those of you in Dublin, perhaps this info may be of interest. I contacted PAS to enquire as to how many people have been placed so far. I was advised that they are currently doing clearance and that nobody has been placed as yet. Personally, I am OOM 137 and am in Batch 1 but I have not received any info regarding completing clearance at this stage. Also, the gentleman I spoke to advised that it may be April/May before my number is reached. I wonder how this lines up with previous competitions - it seems slower than I would have expected.

    No it’s how it goes.

Fair enough! I looked at last years thread and I noticed someone ranked 250+ received their clearance request in February which is why I thought it seemed a little slower. But I suppose it's just a waiting game now.

It's much slower than last year. I remember doing the interview at beginning of Dec then getting notified of a job placement later that month starting in January.

I have my interview Friday week. Am so nervous. Did a competency based interview last year (my first one ever and first interview in 10 years) and made a bad job of it and didn’t make panel for job.
    Some help or advice please?

    Thank you so much

I just did my interview this morning.
    Very nice people.
The questions were about examples of:

    1. when I saw a project through in customer service from start to finish
    2. what is good customer service (give an actual example of a time at work in a previous job)
    3. specialist skills in IT i.e. spreadsheets, formulas, email etc.
    4. what makes good teamwork and what is a good team leader
    5. example of dealing with challenging behaviour in the workplace ( an example from start to finish)

that was more or less it. If you have experience in other jobs use it - it doesn't just have to be in a previous TCO post although I have been a TCO before.

hope this helps a bit too.

    Hi folks,

Got told I passed the interview about a week ago, heard nothing since. Cork, OOM is mid-30s. Any context for what I might expect from this? I thought this was a good number but I don't really know how to interpret. Grateful for any context from old hands! ;)

    Cheers,

I was told once the day aftet an interview with public jobs that I had failed it and would now longer be carried forward. Months I got a call from them asking me if I could take up a position, so logic doesn’t apply to them.

heh, thanks! I won't worry too much about analysing what they do or don't do so! ;)
