Does anyone think Cork would have won if there was the guaranteed safety net of back door? Would they been happy with the moral victory and not pushed as hard in the dying seconds to get something? I think there is something so much better about straight knockout. When you know there is no second chances I'm sure psychology players must be giving more.

What do Fungi and Kerry's 2020 campaign have in common?

    Dead in the water

Can I just say that I have never heard such verbal diahorrea as what I heard from the RTE commentators after that 2nd half David Clifford point.

The greatest point you have ever seen? Really? Really? What complete and utter tripe.

The fawning over Clifford is nauseous and that alone made this neutral give a massive cheer when that late goal went in.

I think they would have still given it a massive lash, they might actually have won easier as Kerry wouldn't have much fear of the back door and getting to the Super 8s.

That win is bigger than any run they might have had via a back door I reckon.

Ah it really was. Powter was nearly in tears in the MOM interview (great to see a lad that has been excellent for Cork for a lot of years get MOM).

As a Tipp man, I know it can be a bit of a tough lonely road to be footballers in a hurling county and especially for Cork with their footballing history, it has been a tough decade for them. I love to see those brave, courageous hard working displays like that.

Its all the more commendable to do it without a crowd to drive them on and also its unusual to see an underdog win in extra time. They were like a terrier that had grip of an arm and clung on all day long and got the slice of luck their hard work deserved at the end.

Absence of a crowd may have helped. They would have been pressurising Cork to get the ball forward and abandon the game plan.

It was a fine score and no more than that. But it was a poor outing overall for Clifford, his poorest that I have seen in the Kerry jersey.

If that's not an advertisement for knock out championship, I dont know what is. Pretty much no chance of going back to it unfortunately.

I think there's going to be pressure on now. Especially if next week shakes out similarly.

3 big ones next week that have epic written all over them.

Us poor Laois fans are probably the only ones with no hope of winning our next match. All the others could go either way on the day.

He missed a pretty straightforward score straight after the score from the corner (which was excellent) but they completely skimmed over the miss same as for the couple of handy frees he missed.

Oh it was just scundering. It's the same in every game he plays.

Was the same with Cooper and will be same with whoever comes next.

Kerry's shooting was awful. They missed kicks you'd expect U12s to score

Hopefully the bloodletting in the Kingdom will be swift, severe, merciless and indiscriminatory.

Has it been decided which provincial winners meet in all Ireland semi finals?

Cork - Kerry game highlighted why knockout championship games can be so good but I don't think we're returning to it. I don't think Waterford or Limerick would have pulled it off. Hopefully that stupid provincial group stage format will be ditched. I'd rather have a spring/summer league feeding onto a knockout championship. I reckon we'll end up getting a tweaked version of the League format they've put out.

It really does. We are a very sporting county. We are a hurling county. But there is a very strong cohort of football fans in Cork. For years we travel and take over Killarney and suffer at the hands of our near neighbours.
But not today. Today will be relived over and over because Cork didn't just beat Kerry, we knocked them out!

Try telling the hurling county nonsense to someone from West Cork or a Duhallow man like myself. There's a lot more football played in Cork than hurling. Mostly in the more rural parts of the county. It's a stereotype that needs fixing. We've enough clubs in the county to be challenging for all irelands in both codes every year.

It's something that drives me spare. I remember being at Cork championship double headers in 2004/2005 as a teenager and being in disbelief seeing Cork fans coming into the stadium at the end of the football game. Hurling snobbery drives me mental. If they're wearing the Cork jersey I'll support them playing tiddlywinks

July 99 was the last time Cork beat Kerry in a knockout match as far as I can see.

Its brilliant. We've had the perfect GAA season, a dedicated club window followed by a high stakes county championship. Going back to the back door would be the antithesis of what the GAA purports to be about

This is laughable from Cork, has there been one ball left into the full forward line all day?

They brought on Keane he hasn't had a touch.

I feel slightly justified that the first ball dropped in on Keane being the last of the game and he scores a goal from it. :)

Should of dropped plenty more on him, he's 6ft 4, strong as a horse and training professional last two years with Collingwood.

Hopefully Cork will utilize him more in the final as I think he can score plenty goals.

    Rebels Abu

Ya that stood out massively for me today taught it was really poor and bloody obvious when i dunno how many times Ive heard them throw a wobbler for less.

Cliffords a great player don't get me wrong but hes not the god hes being made out to be and he is very prone to making very silly mistakes. The more these lads are hyped up less likely they are to mature and get a bit more cop on into there game. O Shea was even worse today for silly mistakes that free he missed in the first half i could of knocked that over in a pair of slippers ffs.

Mad that we’re down to 12, just like that!!

First time Kerry haven't made the last 8 since 1994. Easily the longest streak in football. Almost no chance it would have happened with a back door.

There's more money to be made in High stakes winner takes all games. If you know you might only get one championship outing in the season, you're sure as shíte gonna make sure you're there.

Look at the state of the championship since the super 8s came in? No one cares about the extra games.

Barring the last minute goal, it was a very dour affair.

Cork were turned over in their own half so many times, but Kerry didnt punish them..

A few comments about the ref not letting the game flow.. not his fault if the players are constantly fouling though.
