Kick-off is defined by the dictionary (OED) as - "informal, the start of an event or activity". So seems fine to use in any sport.

Re the early start times, I guess they have to factor in an additional hour for the possibility of extra-time and penalties.

What time is the golf kicking off?

No, sorry that doesn't work. :D

    Predictions for today:

    Meath by 6
    Cavan by 3
    Mayo by 2
    Dublin by 12

Doesn't have to be sport. People use it for other non-sport occasions e.g. what time is the party kicking off.
It's a bit different when someone uses the likes of "what time is kick-off" - often used in soccer terms.
Anyway, that' enough shlte talk from me for today. There's a match to prepare for.

Women’s final camera angles in Croke Park. Always looks strange.

Watching Kildare meath on RTE news now. Not even in HD in this day and age is pathetic. Like watching a game after 6 pints.

Damien Comer named on the bench. Be nice if he got a run out at some stage.

RTe News now lost their dodgy stream there. Must have found a new link now.

Better to leave it off with a hamstring unless its 100%. They took that chance in a meaningless league game and he lasted about 10 mins. Just not worth it

Shane Walsh has given away possession last three times. Needs to sharpen up.

Down kicking some lovely points so far. Cavan look as sharp as a banana.

Ref cost Cavan a goal chance there, gave no advantage

Looks a strong Salthill breeze favouring Mayo in first half. Galway will do well to go in at the break six or seven behind i feel.

Jesus his hair as well, it looks awful, looks like Jack Grealish with it.

Really bad decision from the referee. Cavan terrible so far.

He also awarded a mark for the Down goal even though it didn't go past the 45.. Absolute clown...Down are the far better team though.

Watching Galway vs Mayo. 0-02 vs 0-05 ... A good first 7 from Galway but they’ve gone to shît in the last 10, kicking a handy opportunity into the keepers arms from not very far out there and loosing possession easily in good positions. Mayo are a level or two above but could put more pressure on the scoreboard seeing they have so much ball and territory.

The white jersey is doing Power no favours.

Galway through for a goal there and the forward drops the ball with no defender near him, Mayo 6-2 up now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,146 ✭✭✭threeball

As bad as anything during the Kevin Walsh era. Pure ****e to watch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 693 ✭✭✭grbear

So the clock can be stopped for a water break but not for a break in play due to injury?

That definitely makes loads and loads of sense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,146 ✭✭✭threeball

Buggy making ****e of the pitch

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

I was expecting a little better from Galway. Even allowing for the strong wind they haven't been impressive.

Connacht final a poor game so far. Starting to look like Donegal are out on their own as the only challengers to Dublin.
