Does Carapaz normally sit that far back in the peleton, not looking comfortable at the moment?
I don't know about Carapaz but Froome is looking a lot better today.

On the face of it, a disappointing day with the lack of GC action but perhaps a sign of the times. The days of guys going up the road and taking lumps of time out of their rivals may be a thing of the past.

He's going to need those and more to cover his TT losses.

He and the others got 7 more seconds on McCarthy

Only Jumbo and Movistar have any kind of a team here. The rest just have to do it themselves so for Dan it’s try and hang on and then sprint up the hill when he fa

BTW Dan is back in green tomorrow

Dan Martin will wear the green jersey tomorrow, because the leader of the points classification will be wearing the race leader's jersey.

I don't hold much store with the comparison of climbing times. There's way too many variables for it to be meaningful.

    1. It isn't a TT and how quickly the fastest riders ascend it will depend on when the racing really starts.

    2. Weather conditions (in particular wind) will vary from year to year. It was rotten in 2002 for example, but not so bad this year.

    3. Although this doesn't apply to the Angliru (since it's invariably the last climb) where a climb comes on a stage can often dictate how quickly it's climbed.

The only worthwhile year-on-year comparisons would be TTs in similar weather conditions and they don't happen that often.
