Why would Varadkar force an election when he gets the chance to be Taoiseach, and then leave open the accusation that Martin could maintain the coalition for 2.5 years, but he couldn't?

They will last five years, barring some major cock-up. Given the crisis they have already dealt with, that means the five years is more likely.

They wont get enough to make a one party government for a generation.....and i couldnt see a ff ard deis passing another coalition,particularly as they would likely be a junior party

Martins party will dump him in a heartbeat when we hit 80% vaccination which should be June this year but I suspect it will be waylaid to keep the dream alive, killing people to stay in power, thats not going to play well with any electorate

Look the man is wracking up bad decisions. The leaking of confidential contracts was probably his lesser error. I'd be more worried about the opening up at Christmas that he was the champion of. Lots of bereaved families due to his hubris.

Would you not be better placed directing that worry at the Minister for Health, and maybe the Taoiseach as well, rather than the Minister for Jobs? Not sure why you would see Varadkar as the champion of that decision when he wouldn't have been the one making it.
