This Bowes fellow that Cosgrave seems to have become good friends with recently is a very interesting chap. Has a lot of unusual views on things like Russian influence in Europe, the nefarious activities of people of the Jewish faith etc.

This is now turning into a fiasco. Did one lad around here mention he was taking a day off to enjoy the new ‘leaks’ from the Village? What a waste of time!

Like I say, bemused. That you think these two sentences are at odds with one another.

Varadkar was approached by his pal, (after being knocked back by Harris) looking for confidential information. Leo sought it out and passed it to him.
Pointing out the hole in LV's claim he was looking to bring more GP's on board.
Trying to distance himself with what is either a mistake or a lie on how often they met does not help his already damaged credibility.
Pointing out there is a public interest issue here. Just as many trying to dismiss it, which is odd. Many a thread/story I've no interest in yet I don't feel the need to keep telling posters they aren't genuine in their interest as we've seen on this topic.

It also looks like there's a campaign to discredit this Bowes fella. His views on Russia or Jews has nothing to do with this story.

The revelations today make MOT seem slightly stalkerish. A lot of encounters do seem like Leo didn't necessarily expect to meet him. Reminds me of the cable guy.

Thread from Noel Rock debunking a number of these alleged meetings, with proof.

Rock has the time of the EU meeting wrong, according to the EU's own website the meeting began at 18.00 hours Brussels time.
    Meeting information
    Brussels 30 June 2019 18:00

Paschal and Harris denying any meetings involving them took place. Public diaries disputing a number of these alleged meetings as well.

Absolute dud. Sounds like MoT was trying to get out of having to talk to this Chay Bowes fella, or whoever he is.

The opposition making themselves look like laughing stocks here. It’s a shame as well because The Village’s initial story had some merit.

Oh boy, did the Village Magazine not do any verifying? Journalism 101.

That’s it, so. He must resign with immediate effect.

why would the GP being to meet the Taoiseach to discuss votegate?

Makes a meeting earlier in the day quite possible Maryanne. Rock rushed to publication without checking his facts it seems.

The Village did mention catching the 'flight to Brussels would be tight' in their article.

This MOT lad looks a right spoofer, sounds like he was filling the others with **** and making himself look a right lad. Some joke

Rock mentions an EPP meeting at 4pm though, not the council meeting that was later
EPP is the group of MEP's that his party is part of
This whole whatsapp drop is unreal ridiculously amateurish IMO

He has made a right tit of himself.
Has he said anything since these new non story txts came out?

Can't help thinking that Varadkar, O'Toole and Donohoe are male versions of the character's in "Clueless", Varadker being the "Cher Horowitz" one

The WhatsApp whataboutery is taking from the real story. The original leak was unacceptable for a head of state. I don’t care who he was friends with or anything else. The village are giving the Leo supporters ammunition with their over egging of non pertinent rubbish.

Day off means he’s not down in Paddy Power’s gaff John.

Yet Leo sent him confidential information behind the backs of his colleagues.
The more I hear about MOT the more he reminds me of Leo.

Agreed here, but the problem now is that this latest drop and the sheer lack of journalism gone into it has muddied the waters of the original leak, and it gives more credit to Varadkar’s side of the story than it does for Chay Bowes.

    Also, to add:

    https://twitter.com/cardiodocmatt/status/1325851451361464322?s=21

Leo’s partner confirming he met MOT and Bowes for pints but Leo wasn’t there.

It’s absolutely stupid that they released this. They thought everyone would buy into it and all it has done is raise credibility issues for Village moreso than Varadkar.

Council for The Village agreeing with what The Village says? Wowsers.

Worse still they included the get-out clause:

However the communication by any person may nonetheless be excepted from prohibition, not because of status for example as member of the Oireachtas or Minister, but if the disclosing person either

is duly authorised to communicate the official information – “duly authorised” here means (S.4(4)) authorised by a Minister or State authority or by some person authorised in that behalf by a Minister or State authority to communicate the official information, or
communicates the official information in the course of or in accordance with his or her duties as the holder of a public office (not including membership of the Oireachtas), or
when it is his or her duty in the interest of the State to communicate it.

To be fair to them the original story that Varadkar leaked the document was a good story, even if it was spoon fed to them by Paddy Cosgrave to settle a score. The stuff they published today is poor.

I don't think they need to torn down over it. Varadkar himself said he doesn't do litigation against media. I'd say he'll stick to his word on that. However whatever reputation increase they got from the first story will have taken a hit today.

That Twitter account looks like a parody.

Looks to me like someone who doesn't want to plaster their whole life online, especially when they are in a relationship with a very prominent public figure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,055 ✭✭✭JohnnyFlash

Paddy Cosgrave has become an increasingly desperate, bitter, and slightly unhinged figure since the start of Covid-19. The Village really should have heard the alarm bells ringing when he fed them this story.

This story was created in the outrage furnaces of Twitter from poor quality material and sold to the masses looking for something new to be outraged about. It’s a timely tale that some of the regulars on the current affairs forum should use as a learning opportunity.

Total slimeball by the sounds of it.

Well in with all terrestrial news channels also, a regular on the Telly over the covid, guest appearance on Claire Byrne live etc. His career is ruined.

I said this 2 weeks ago , the real victims in this are going to be Matt Tool and Whatshisname. If anything Leo will come out smelling like roses.

Public perception is everything and the common voter now knows that this is a desperate attempt to besmirch Leo Varadkar. They fired, they missed and he will actually come out of this looking stronger than ever.

Leo by his actions and 'fairy tale' answering has done serious reputational damage to himself and FG.

You need to own that Johnny and stop shooting the messengers.

In what sense? Did they force leo Varadkar to pass commercially sensitive information to a third party?

The personality cult that has developed around Leo within the FG party and supporters of a certain ilk is one of the creepiest phenomenons in Irish politics in recent years. It's utterly bizzare.

Listening to this tripe anyone believing this waffle deserves to be taken for a ride. Ordered another copy to re read it :pac:
