Leo Varadkar should stand aside like anyone who would be involved in a full garda investigation until the investigation is complete and he is cleared......there's no more to it.....

This stepping aside - or being considered provisionally guilty until proven innocent - is a virus that has invaded many aspects of life in the last couple of decades. It needs to stop. Innocent until proven guilty has served well enough for centuries. Lets get back to that basic foundation of law.

Lol. FG wanted Stanley to step aside over a few tweets.

One rule for them. That whole Stanley tweet debacle just showed how vengeful and spiteful the FG party is. It was nothing but payback for Leo varadkar being embarrassed by having to make a statement to Dail on leaking confidential document to his mates. FG do not like to be held to account or criticised and anyone who dares to do this will feel the repercussions. Remember that woman stopped and questioned at Dublin Airport because she criticised Doherty. FG is not a normal party.

So what would be your solution be to say eg..... a teacher/social worker/police officer/ facing allegations of some kind ....according to your idea you would allow them to remain in the job until proven innocent or guilty.

Nobody is saying Leo Varadkar is guilty of anything but he is involved in a garda investigation and therefore should step aside until the investigation is over....

She has her own questions to answer as well on interfering in a case. Expect some focus on her soon.

She should resign it's a complete conflict of interest and a justice minister declaring someone innocent before an investigation is like something you'd see in russia. Can you imagine the pressure of a Gardai investigating this knowing the justice minister and commissioner are locked in tight with the person you're investigating? Especially after we seen what they do to whistleblowers etc.

Has the PSNI come out with a result on the Michelle O’Neill participation in the Bobby Storey ‘funeral’ ?

Oh here we go with the hyperbole.

    Deflect central lol

This is not a thread of NI politics

And there we have it folks the typical response from FG supporters but but but what about SF. I guess the FG social media meeting is over and we will now see the usual nothing to see here or deflection to do something else like BB has said above. Good one BB you must be on for a bonus.

This is not a thread of NI politics

It’s relevant given the amount of criticism from certain sources for the Tainiste.

It is nohing got to do with Leo being under a criminal investigating for leaking documents

P.S SF had nothing to do with this information being passed to the media or the Gardai

What attending a funeral is the same as leaking a confidential government document to your mates? This is nothing but a pathetic attempt to deflect from the ongoing criminal investigation into Leo Varadkar, simple as that. Why don't you ask the Michelle O'Neil question on the many SF threads on here?

The shinners are mentioned in the exact RTE same article being quoted. Hardly deflection.

Like I said in my post this is the standard response nothing to see here and try to take the thread off topic.

But I thought Leo was going to sue The Village back to the Stone Age??

I was assured that there was "nothing to see here" and this story would be "dead by the end of the week"...almost 5 months ago. Remember, the US Election was going to swallow it in a tidal wave of news?

This latest development is most perplexing indeed.

You never let yourself down lad! LoL

Yes, denial might not be enough, has to legal and make them withdraw or front up.
It's a third hand story, maybe the village figure that gives them an out somehow.
But Leo has to quash this dead, if it drags on it will only discredit him, true or not.

Leo quashing this hasnt went too well

Things must be bad for Varadkar and FFG if even RTE is running the story about the upgrade of the investigation to a criminal investigation:

"Criminal investigation" -> seeing if a crime has been committed. No criminal charges have been made as yet, as far as I can see or am I missing something ?

Wonder will he step aside or be asked to step aside while the criminal investigation is been carried out.

    What case?

The Gardai haven't even concluded that there is a case to investigate let alone answer.

    They most certanley do now.

Is there a precedent on this island for what happens when someone is being investigated by the Gardai/PSNI?

Maybe we will have to shut the thread then, in case it ends up before the courts. We wouldn't want some poster on here to prejudice the trial.

If your party leader has any balls or wants to get a bit of respect back from the public, he will be calling for him to stand aside

Think the Justice minister has already tried on RTE just now.
