Mary Lou trying to play political games. People see right through this whole sham. SF will gain no new followers with this silly side show.

Big bad Mary Lou, must be galling for Leaky Leo to have Mary Lou call for his resignation. Let's not forget that little vote of confidence Leo's colleagues had the chance to step up to the plate, let's not also ignore the incoming albeit temporary (thank god) Minister for Justice showed not just poor judgement on Sunday but proved a complete lack of objectivity. At the very least FG need to insure (and they won't) the FG minister for Justice is recused completely from this sordid affair.

It's no side show, extremely serious and disturbing.

    Indeed, for Jean McConville's family

jean mc conville? what has jean mc conville got to do with leo varadkar leaking confidential documents ?

we are discussing the now tanaiste of ireland passing confidential documents to a third party when he was serving as taoiseach, and the response seems to be jean mc conville, something that happened in 1972 for the love of jesus !

is this really the best people can offer when trying to defend leo the snake ?

Do you not agree though that irrespective of who calls for Leo Varadkar to step aside whilst under investigation that he should do so..?

No member of the Dail should be under garda investigation and continue to make decisions re:the country/his party....imo

Seriously lads. I'm no fan of SF at all (see my post earlier), but all nonsense like this does is damage FG and its supporters even more than the constant string of incompetence and scandal.

If ye can't see how trying to drag SF into every topic about FG and its personnel does more to reinforce the points made against them, then maybe stop posting?

It just smacks of desperation and "look over there"/"nothing to see here"

As mentioned previously, if for nothing other than the good of the Country, he should step aside, as he this will become nothing but a distraction, and that is the last thing we need in these troubling times.

Mary Lou trying to play political games.
You do realise that she is a politician and a leader of a party with more seats than FG. That's what political party leaders do. Since FG is led by a self-obsessed narcissist with the self-control of an angry teenager when it comes to Social Media, FG finds itself in the terrible position of losing the Laura Norder vote.
People see right through this whole sham. SF will gain no new followers with this silly side show.
FG may lose quite a bit of support if Varadkar has to do a perp walk.

It's very naive to think that this will ever be sent by the DPP.

It's very naive to think that this will ever be sent by the DPP.

It has to and will be sent as investigation upgraded to "criminal" the DPP will then make a determination

It's very naive to think that this will ever be sent by the DPP.
The Gardai submit the file to the DPP and the DPP then decides if there is a case to answer. Being extremely journalistically cynical, going by what has been published in the usually docile press release recycling industry, Varadkar may be about to be thrown to the wolves along with plans being made for his replacement by an internal FG putsch that will not leave FF with blood on its hands and thus keep FFG in government.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/garda%C3%AD-set-to-send-file-on-varadkar-leak-to-the-dpp-1.4510220

Gardaí investigating the leak by Tánaiste Leo Varadkar of a confidential draft of a new GP contract are expected to submit a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the next two months at the conclusion of their investigation.
It will then be a decision for the DPP whether to charge Mr Varadkar with any offence, although gardaí are likely to issue a recommendation with their report.

    ...

...Privately some senior Government figures say it will be politically damaging for Mr Varadkar, for Fine Gael and for the Government to have a file with the DPP about a serving Government Minister.

Seriously, how can a person accept criticism from someone whose record and background and ideals far exceeds ones own in ‘wrongdoing’.

    Just think about that, compadre.

Meant to say that the DPP would recommend proceeding with a prosecution. Not a hope.

This is just wishful thinking. Would be better suited to the Conspiracy Theory forum.

It's not just SF calling for him to step away ijust n case you're happy using the Shinners as an excuse for him to stay. Despite his wrongdoing.

To paraphrase Harry Brill from the movie "Enemy of the State", it's more than a theory with me. I'm a former conspirer (journalist). :)

Micheal Martin and Fianna Fail aren't going to throw him under the bus. That'd bring down the government and nobody wants to be seen to do that.

Varadkars position as leader of Fine Gael is what will save him. Any less senior minister would be gone. Varadkar himself would come out with a statement saying they'd been asked to step aside maybe temporarily possibly in a similar scenario to McEntees maternity where the position is left open for a return depending on FF and the Greens and most importantly how much Varadkar wanted to keep them.

"Meanwhile, in a statement the Green Party said it acknowledges the account and apology given by Mr Varadkar in the Dáil last November and has confidence in him."

From the RTE article. There it should rest.

Just as well the Gardai are the ones who'll have the final say. Would be a cold day in hell before the GP would grow a spine.

Two other party leaders have backed him now. That's all there is to it. Let the guards do their job now and after the DPP chooses not to pursue it we can all move on.

Nothing more than cowardice. They are afraid to face the electorate and are clinging on to get the pensions. This is not putting the country first, this is nothing more than greed.

heather humohreys publicly supporting leo was a disgrace. she should have the cop on to realize that as jm (even acting one) you shouldnt be basically predicting the outcome of an upcoming case . not only that but she said leo leaked it for the public interest .

that's complete nonsense anyway as he didn't leak it to the public he leaked it to his friend who isn't a friend wink wink !

laws and ethics aren't supposed to apply to the people who make them apparently it's a great little country to be corrup in !

    • This story is going nowhere, it'll be buried next week.
    • The Village is a rag anyways!
    • The document wasn't really confidential.
    • But what about Sinn Fein?!?!?!
    • The Gardaí looking at it is just a formality. It's not even an investigation.
    • This thread should be closed now.

Looking through some previous posts in this thread is funny. :)

And we've now moved on to sure the other party leaders have backed him it's grand.

    Reading an older script mayhap?
A total load of bulldust and a complete sideshow.

Absolute waste of time. No crime committed. If you think AGS will be sending any files to the DPP you're naive in the extreme.
    ....
God, that Village outfit and the crank Chay Bowes look more desperate every time they try in vain to flog this dead horse.

This is a dead duck lads. Move on.
I'm embarrassed for the people who won't let this go.

Thankfully we can still embarrass the authorities in at least being seen to do the right thing.
