Hmm. Another really tough one cos of the variety.

London's Eye - well we already have one ferris wheel sent through, so no need for a second..

The Kelpies - bit like our Tinnies. Interesting, but not a winner.

Stonehenge - visually striking and huge history, but ultimately just a few stones and a bit boring to walk around. Newgrange is at least aesthetically pleasing too.

The other three are all great. I'll vote for Tower Bridge. Iconic and a definite landmark. I prefer outdoorsy stuff like Snowdonia, but Tower Bridge is too iconic to overlook here

Has to be Stonehenge for me, Tower Bridge second.

They're just more historically significant than the others

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,007 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    This is a big one!

Tower Bridge for me. So iconic and unique, plus it has the historical edge over the Eye, even though I love that too

    Tower Bridge

Love the history, the beafeaters, the crown jewels, the views all around

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Kind of old v new here for me - Tower Bridge or the Kelpies.

I'll go for Tower Bridge, it's a much more iconic landmark when it comes down to it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Agreed - a really tough one this!

I'm going to go with Edinburgh Castle, because it's in Scotland (not sure why that's a reason, but it is in my head!) and because it's plonked there broodingly on top of the hill overlooking Main Street Edinburgh, and it's just brilliant.

I suspect either Tower Bridge or Stonehenge will go through, though.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,647 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

I think I'll go for Tower Bridge its definitely the most iconic along with the London Eye. But I don't like ferris wheels (heights)so I wouldn't ever consider going on it

    Stonehenge.

Great historical significance coupled with mystique.

Great analysis. Stonehenge is a significant site, but it should have been better protected and preserved.

So yeah Tower Bridge pretty unique.

    Stonehenge
    Iconic landmark

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Probably the weaker of the two rounds. Although I do like Glenfinnan Viaduct, very picturesque, so it's an easy pick for me here.

    Buckingham Palace

I'm not even going to apologize for my fascination with the British Royal family.
The history, the scandals, & of course the buildings!

I will get inside Buckingham Palace someday.........

Glenfinnan Viaduct wow what a fantastic structure and with a proper train on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,647 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

    Big Ben definitely

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,969 ✭✭✭✭alchemist33

Even as a Man Utd fan, I don't think OT has anything over other stadia.

Big Ben for me, it's instantly recognisable

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    Big Ben
My parents went to London for their honeymoon many many years ago and I remember seeing all the old photos when I was a kid of London and in particular big Ben, it's been a favourite of mine since then, as a man utd fan I was tempted to vote old Trafford

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

I nominated Tobermory, because it manages to be super-cute as well as stunningly beautiful and magnificent all at the same time, and I had the best seafood chowder I've EVER eaten there (and it was a Womble as a bonus!) - but up against those others, I think it hasn't a hope......

But I'm going to vote Scotland again.

    (That viaduct though..... )

    Glenfinnan Viaduct.

Absolutely gorgeous in the 'flesh', the whole surroundings are fabulous.

A long-established legend attached to the Glenfinnan Viaduct was that a horse had fallen into one of the piers during construction in 1898 or 1899. In 1987, Professor Roland Paxton failed to find evidence of a horse at Glenfinnan using a fisheye camera inserted into boreholes in the only two piers large enough to accommodate a horse. In 1997, on the basis of local hearsay, he investigated the Loch nan Uamh Viaduct by the same method but found the piers to be full of rubble. Using scanning technology in 2001, the remains of the horse and cart were found at Loch nan Uamh, within the large central pylon.

**The two viaducts are about 15 miles apart
