    Big Ben. Dong!

Ah here - who nominated Old Trafford?

Sark is a fantastic place for those who've not been there/heard of it. No cars allowed, and only a handful of streetlights. Great pace of life - Google the Sark ambulance for an example :p

But I'll have to acknowledge it's outgunned here. I think it's between Big Ben and the viaduct. I'll go for the viaduct cos it's part of a great train line (something the Brits invented), so it's got slightly bigger scope than Big Ben, even though it's as iconic as Tower Bridge and I'm clearly contradicting myself in my two choices!

Just a reminder that play-offs are 15 minutes. It's coming up right now.

Tower Bridge more of a landmark

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Hmmmm.....

I think of those two, Big Ben has to shade it - although Big Ben is actually the bell, not the tower/building, it's the Elizabeth Tower - although if we're going down that road, I reckon half of people mix up London Bridge and Tower Bridge (I know I did for years) - and now I'm not entirely sure what my point is.....

I vote Big Ben - for the bongs!

Big Ben over the bridge this time - half of my family live in London & when I went over as a kid not knowing anything about the clock, but only hearing it, I thought it was really cool. I eventually did get to see it & wasnt disappointed

Two very similar candidates and not much to choose between them.

I remember arguments in school about whose digital watch was more accurate being settled by "I set it against the news last night". So definitely a noteworthy landmark!

But the Bridge just has that bit more going for it. Bigger, more dramatic, and - the clincher for me - no-one ever lived in a house built on the edge of Big Ben

I think Tower Bridge is the more visually impressive of the two, so I'll vote for that.

    Big Ben
Both are great but when I think of London I think of Big Ben first

    Tower Bridge.

    Greater historical significance.

The original London Bridge was bought and transported to America. The urban myth is that they thought they were buying Tower Bridge and got the wrong one. Pretty sure it's not actually true though

Anyway, Tower Bridge edges it for me but it's damn close. The trip up and over it is very cool, and when I was a kid seeing it open really excited me

Big Ben. More impressive than the Tower Bridge for me.

How did the London Eye get knocked out though :(

    Because it's a Ferris wheel.

    Because it's a Ferris wheel.

It's amazing is what it is.

Anyways Glenfinnan Viaduct was robbed overall. Tower Bridge is very meh, shame we had to have two London landmarks in the final but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Agree I thought the viaduct was the better - although I'm pretty familiar (maybe over familiar) with Tower Bridge and Westminster Tower. Surprised St Paul's didn't come up, looking up at the dome is awesome, though I'd still go for the viaduct.
