I think Mont Saint Michel going out was probably the most disappointing one. Otherwise no complaints, it's a strong looking line up.

Ide love to see it some day but it was up against the Pyramids which is my Ultimate thing to see before I die and probably my earliest memory of history or landmarks

Ah boo.... a dreary day, pissing with rain, nothing else to be doing - I was looking forward to a day of dreaming and drooling about visiting world landmarks..... been F5'ing all day in anticipation!

Most of ones that went through were my pics as well - Mont St. Michel being one exception. Delighted to see the Skelligs survive to the next round.

I still reckon Schafberg peak will take some beating though!

I think every single one of JP Liz's posts on this have been spectacularly late actually :p

Not sure any of them have been counted.

cdeb and Necro have joined HeidiHeidi in the 100 Club now too as it happens. I couldn’t get any matches done from the office today as my spreadsheet is at home and forgot to copy it. But everyone knows now and the high stakes kick off after 8:30PM

Who's ready for Round 2 to begin? As before, it's 20 minutes per match. It's gonna get a lot tougher from here on out.

I keep missing this, so bring to on! I think I've only voted once in the whole thread.

    Oooh, Milford Sound for me.

The one I'd travel a lot further to see, it's more beautiful, it's natural, and (hopefully!) doesn't have a rubbish dump just out of shot!

    Milford Sound (New Zealand)

A case of nature trumps man-made here.

2 I've been to and both excellent.

But I've been to the Taj twice and each time it took my breath away. You think it'll underwhelm but it doesn't, gleaming under the sun. The brilliant white, the symmetey of the four smaller towers, the tragic love story behind it. I think its the most beautiful building in the world and it gets my vote.

I'll go for Milford Sound. A true piece of natural beauty. The Taj Mahal looks impressive too but that's because of the money being thrown at its maintenance.

Not lying when you say it's a toughie.

I think it's easier to really find Milford Sound - some quiet spot at least - whereas the Taj, so far as I'm aware, always seems to be busy (because it's India, and India is always busy)

That's a vague reason to vote for Milford Sound, but it's as good as I can muster. And this is only the last 32...

Tough one to start, I could go either way really, but the Taj Mahal just seems a bit more iconic to me and I think, more often than not, I'll favour built sites over natural scenery from here on out.

Yeah if it was the restaurant I might have gone with it too, but Milford Sound. Natural beauty trumps man-made however charming - plus the rubbish dumo.

    Machu Picchu (Peru)

The more iconic of the two and fascinating history. No competition here as far as I am concerned.

Booooooooo! on the Taj getting voted out

    *stomps away*

Oh, wait, beautiful mountains. How can I choose between them?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,258 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

I'm going to go with the gate. I know someone (HeidiHeidi?) said last time that it's only that photo angle that makes it so impressive. But it is bloody impressive, and I can't find a bad angle on the google. Machu Picchu is glorious as well of course, but I'm going to just squeak it for Heaven's Gate.

Machu Picchu - plus according to Wikipedia this has already won an internet poll.

Both great but I'll go Machu Picchu as it's a mini-city that stayed hidden for centuries, whereas Heavens Gate is a big hole with steps leading up to it.
