Arc de Triumphed, it is between this and The Louvre, but the Arc is slightly better

I'm torn between the Louvre and it's unique design and Millau Viaduct for sheer epicness.

Epicness wins - some construction in that, voting Millau Viaduct

    Snap!

Love that viaduct, but I'll have to go for The Louvre
looks great, but for all contents also

Louvre for me, I like the contrast of the pyramid and the traditional building.

Palace of Versailles for me, looks wonderous with a rich history.

    Arc de Triumphe

Much more iconic than the rest

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,069 ✭✭✭Irish Aris

    The Louvre.

One of my best travelling memories: walking in and up the stairs to see the statue of Nike of Samothrace (Winged Victory)

It's a draw between the Arc and The Louvre! That was a bloody close affair. Tie-breaker incoming

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Ok will have to be critical enough here. I'm cracking out the half point system.

    Arc de Triumphe

Some amazing choices there for the French pick

Doesn't really say anything about the Arc but recognises the tough choice. Half a point.

    0.5 to Arc
Toughie. I'll go for the Louvre. You wouldn't think a glass pyramid would work with all that history, but it does

    Great reason.

    1 - 0.5 to Louvre

Arc de Triumphe The detail carved into the stone looks even better irl.

    Gives personal insight. Full point

    1.5 - 1 to Arc

Tenuous but half a point awarded.

    2 - 1 to Arc

Just about a full point for referencing the treasures within.

    I can accept the iconography.

    Mont Saint Michel

Just breathtakingly beautiful. No competition here for me.

    Mont Saint Michel

That is just insane  How have I never heard of this place?

    Gotta be voting that

I'll go for the Mont here. It's an entire village. Wandering the streets and shops at the lower levels is great, and then you can rise above it at the higher levels. And of course, there's that great first view of it a short distance out to sea.

    Mont Saint Michel

It's the most beautiful in my opinion

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Notre Dame. Not only for its beauty but the views of the Sienne and the whole Montmatre walk.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Mont Saint Michel for me also. It's almost as good as that island with the castle on it in Cavan...

(Actual reason in case it's a draw - it's just a stunning piece of scenery, both natural and built).

Mont St Michel..... looks amazing, first heard of it as a teenager, have loved the idea ever since (a long time!!) but still haven't seen it for real.

    Eiffel Tower

Another tough choice but the ET personifies Paris and France

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,648 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

Note Dame - because of the picture. I went past it on a river cruise, but it was after it had been burned so it wasn't as it is in the picture anymore :(

Eifel Tower is iconic, instantly recognisable which is a charactistic of a great landmark. Looks like it is going out here though which is a shame.

Some great options for France, going to have to look more into them.

I'll vote Eiffel Tower, its an iconic landmark and the photos of it being built are really impressive, plus it's got a secret apartment within it

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Well it's not a secret anymore is it?!

Just a quick adjustment. Qualifying play-offs will be 15 mins rather than 20 mins.

I nominated The Louvre but I'm gonna vote Mont Saint Michel, just awestruck by it.

Has to be Mont Saint Michel.

The Louvre is often on the list of biggest tourist let-downs (particularly the scrum around the Mona Lisa)

The Mont is spectactular in every way - from afar and up close, from below and on top. Hard to fault it.
