Nope. Swing and a miss from Trigger. Barking up the wrong tree altogether.

Purple was right in the lines of thinking it was pop culture related, just wrong in the pop culture knowledge

No. I think you're thinking of different people entirely. Are you thinking about Once Upon a Time by any chance? It's not that anyway, but sounds like that might be the show you're thinking of.

I think the first pic is Julianna Marguiles, she was a doctor in ER. I was mistaking her for Madeline Stowe.
    Can't place the second lady.

Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, by the way.

They could star in a look-alike episode of Sex in the city meets Friends.

Their first names are both surnames of American presidents named William - William Henry Harrison and William Jefferson (better known as Bill) Clinton.

Also both surnames of musicians called George -George Harrison and George Clinton.

They both renounced their birth citizinships

You're basically there, so I'll give it. :)

They've both taken citizenship from other countries: Depardieu became a Russian citizen (don't know if he's actually renounced his French citizenship yet though) and Turner became a Swiss citizen.

Initially I had Tina Turner and Boris Johnson, who have both renounced American citizenship, but Johnson wasn't PM at time so it probably didn't make news much, whereas I remember Depardieu's being reported on more.
