Surely Farrell was taken out of it as Stuart broke through?

Ireland’s Call is usually terrible at World Cups but usually good at home. Not sure what happened today mind you. Too many weird poppy versions. Just keep it basic and folky. Christy Moore on an acoustic would do it.

Interesting that we're seeing the same forced kicking game as we seen at the start of the England game.

    Nicely taken try by Burns

Beirne with a couple lovely dummy lines there - lovely from Farrell as well. McCloskey making good headway

Stockdale done again. He's hopeless back there.

    Great try

2 v 1 with Burns hunting on the inside, Stockdale made the right call.

    That is a nice try

    Good score by Georgians.

Stockdale is so far from a test level 15

No way, you make the hit and force that pass.

Stocktake is a liability at 15 I must say. All at sea in defence. Take your man and rely on your teammates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,468 ✭✭✭Ectoplasm

So not a fan of Stockdale in defense. Not his fault per se but if there is a decision to be made he seems to consistently make the wrong one. Maybe recency bias tbf.

    Maybe...
Seeing it again, poor tackle attempt from Burns

Wouldnt blame Stockdale there, Burns missed the tackle and Stockdale covered the support.

Beirne and Stander don't come out of that looking good. We're sold the dummy and let the Georgian through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,591 ✭✭✭touts

Stockdale should have taken the man. He is simply not up to the required level at Full Back.

    Burns?

    Beirne you mean

He’s made plenty of defensive mistakes in the past but that wasn’t one of them. Great try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Stockdale really had to take the man.

    Brilliant try none the less.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Stockdale was pure crap, but problem started cause Beirne doesn’t have the mobility to play flanker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

Simple pass to Earls but kicks instead.....

He shouldn't have kicked that, 2v1 on there, only kick if it's a 1v1.

Both. Beirne missed the inside ball, Burns got stepped when Stockdale drifted to take the outside man.

There we go. 5 minutes that perfectly show why Stockdale is a wing and NOT a full back.

Beirne more than CJ I'd say. CJs read was fine, Beirne was shallow on the hunt on the inside.

Interesting move there switching to Beirne on the wing just there.

Wasn't particularly good for a winger either. Stander blocked the cover tackle then Stockdale needlessly boots away possession.

Brutal from Stander. Too busy offside arguing with the ref to defend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭theVersatile

Brilliant from McCloskey - Murray playing quickly there too

Laws experts: how is that not penalty after the Georgian picks the ball back up and rejoins the maul?

    1. CJ was right - the ball was dropped so the maul was over - open play (see Murray v Toulon)

    2. CJ didn't leave that gap

Be interesting to see how other refs would've given it. Maybe a scrum for accidental offside?

Stockdale seems intent on trying to run Earls' lines for him

Can only assume the referee didn't see the ball go to the deck

nobody can defend this selection. nobody. Doris needed another run at 8. Porter is being flogged. Healy on the bench. Murray at 9. lack of new caps. Keenan over Daly. I'd go as far to suggest this is the worst its ever been. It's a nadir for Irish rugby and i probably won't watch this. This team will beat Georgia by about 50 points and come the 6 nations we will be no better for it.France have eleven debutants in their squad to play Italy. A wasted opportunity and i have no idea what Farrell is doing. Should have been shown the door after Japan or kept on as defensive coach, cause he isn't the answer. **** me i'm raging. i was hoping i'd be wrong.

He was right to stand offside arguing with the ref instead of getting back into the defensive line? No he wasn't. Amateur stuff.

If he didn't go offside, he'd have either been still in the maul or rejoined the maul from the back. Either way he didn't leave the gap.

Also we've already established he wasn't offside

All the space in the back line with a pen advantage and Murray takes it directly into contact. Maybe instead of bigger players we really need players with a brain.

Stander can't read the referee's mind and know that he would make that mistake

This is totally irrelevant. If there had been a try there it would have been called back anyway.

    "Murray doesn't snipe enough anymore"

    *Murray snipes*

    "WHY IS MURRAY SNIPING?!?!"

FWIW: I agree it was the wrong decision from Murray, but still. He tried something. Didn't work - back for the pen - no harm.

Ref told him to get out and play on so he was offside and decided to argue with with the ref while play continued behind him.

Doesn't matter how right anyone think he was about the maul being over you don't turn your back on play to argue with the ref in your own 22.

Accidental offside is exactly what I was thinking, forgot that wasn't a full penalty any more.

Read the refs mind? The ref told him to get out. So stander stopped to argue with him instead of getting back into the defensive line.
