    Not islamists surrendering

It's not the usual modus operandi for these attackers, I'd expect a shootout is required.

What's the beef with Austria? Never really known them to be at the forefront of any previous Muslim confrontations. If countries like Austria are being attacked are we completely out of the picture?

Austrian Empire were Ottomans greatest rivals historically. You've plenty of quite important battles between Austria/Hungary and the Ottomans over the centuries. Austria, along with the Spanish kingdoms were pretty much Europe's defensive frontline against Muslim invaders

The Irish people will only wake up to the Islamic barabrism when it's their mother, brother, father or sister mowed down whilst shopping on Grafton or Henry Street, waiting for a bus on O'Connell Street or nail bombed in the 3 Arena.

I think the Irish people know enough about terrorism, thank you very much.

Fun fact- the day of the Dundalk attack I checked Ruth Coppinger's FB page. She was ranting some ****e about the Catholic Church, naturally, and completely ignored the Dundalk attack (to make it even worse at the time for the likes of her it was initially reported the attacker was Syrian i.e imported in as opposed to made his own way here)

Merkel made one hell of a mistake.

Merkel knew what she was doing.
She's not worried about her own children

And what stopped it ? Agreement as hard and as long as it took. I see no other way you’ll never hunt them all

Saw the video of the guy killed standing by a window. The casualness of it is mindblowing.

The gunman blows the man away with a rifle, the man collapses, the gunman runs up the street. The gunman comes back shortly afterwards, lightly jogging and takes out a pistol and finishes the man off with multiple shots as he is writhing in agony on the ground, all without breaking from his light jog.

Sorry to interrupt the soap boxing but what’s the current situation? Read that one attacker was killed and another on the run. Do they know how many there were?

I’m presuming the photos of the three guys being searched were just randomers? Not really their MO to be taken alive.

Do you not think he’s risking another attack on France ?

Out of interest actually do you think that even if Macron were to express sentiment that was received very negatively by the Muslim community do you think he would somehow be at fault for the terrorists going on a shooting spree in response?

It seems hard to say at the moment, lot's of different reports and rumours.. the hostage situation seems to have been just a rumour that got out of hand

I was wondering if it was his girlfriend at first standing next to him but she leaves.
He must have been under shock or something for not leaving.
    Just...

    Do you want more?
Do you not think that the threat level around Europe and Ireland went up another notch tonight?

    The irrelevance of comparison

The realisation that they could never win, and that they were losing support both at home and abroad?

In any case.. it's a ridiculous comparison.

It's not about hunting them all down. It's about creating the next step in European civilisation, and how to protect Europeans from foreign threats. This terrorism is simply a part of that threat.

We need to find a way to protect ourselves from religious or political fanatics... just as we need to find a way of dealing with cultures/religions extremely different from us, living within our borders. Times are changing, and the old systems don't work anymore.

We're probably safe enough for now because we're a useful staging post and they don't want to attract too much undue attention til they have more numbers and power.

Islamic State sees Ireland as somewhere to fundraise, rather than attack, apparently.
THE ISLAMIC STATE terrorist group views Ireland as somewhere to fundraise rather than target for a terrorist attack, according to a new report.

    The Journal, I know.

One attacker dead, a few on the run. Not much more details from official channels.
The incident was across 6 places, all very close to each other close to the main Jewish synagogue.
Motivation not quite clear yet, but the attackers where armed with rifles.
It is not clear if the closeness to the Synagogue is relevant.
Things seems to have calmed down now.
All around Schwedenplatz, lot of bars, restaurants.

There is no negotiation possible. Its not Eta, the PLO or the IRA.

Who exactly do you propose negotiating with?No organisation even claims responsibility.

Are we seriously suggesting we open dialogue with Islamists and also comparing it to the troubles?

You see it's not that easy.

By the time THAT happens it'll be too late, there will be to many of them here. You can't just revoke people's citizenship either, you can't pull their kids out of school and send them "home" at that point. Its just too late.

Poland, don't let them in in the first place is the only way to deal with them.

    That girl turned and ran
If you watch the video slowly you can see sparks around her feet where bullets were flying
Looks like the animal went after her

Does anyone else feel uneasy going into Dublin City Centre especially around Henry Street and Grafton Street when it's packed particularly around Christmas time these last couple of years?

  • Registered Users Posts: 274 ✭✭newirishman

On Austrian TV: Interior minister has called this now a terrorist attack. Asks people to stay in doors. Avoid public spaces. Stay where you are.
Attackers are heavily armed and still on the run.
Police and Special forces are out on force, and are on the hunt.
Several people injured who are in hospital.

Motivation? Video of the robbed dude shouting Allah Ackbar

Course, the Austrians don't. Habsburg dynasty is long since over. There's a sizable enough percentage who do want a return of a monarchy in Austria though, similar to the UK and Spanish systems.

Now, just cos Austrians don't, doesn't mean that the savages who did this aren't being indoctrinated to attack Austria cos of historical events

Where the first man was murdered is almost right across the road from the Synagogue, I'm pretty sure the video is from one of it's security cameras. But judging from the video they don't seem interest in the building itself.. also just out of shot at both ends of that lane are two big party areas which would be full of people on a normal night

Yes but the Islamists give a ****. Because Vienna was the high water mark of islamic conquest of Europe they believe it is muslim territory.
