Most important TT ever for Dan Martin today. If he can be within 30s of podium after today hopefully he can make it back on the final climbing stage on Saturday.

Seeing a few of the early riders climbing on their TT bikes, I guess Cavagna (who is on the road now) will be one to watch in that regard. Can't imagine any contenders will climb on the TT bike.

Froome on the road now. Wonder if he's going to give it a shot today? It's the kind of profile that would really suit him if he has any form at all.

I read somewhere on Cyclingnews that Froome said he would be taking it easy today so that he's fresh to help Carapaz for the rest of the week

Sounds like a ready made excuse eh?

There is a dedicated 'pit-stop zone' on the climb and there will be a mechanic waiting there with a bike.

Going by this video, it's going to be tough work for the mechanic

Who do they have beating Roglic?

Froome going up on TT bike? I didn't see his splits but that probably tells me all I need to know!

Rémi Cavagna I would guess, personally I think Roglic will win the stage, but we shall see!

Wow that prediction sheet paints a pretty rosy picture. Is there any chance it'll be borne out in reality? Fingers crossed of course, but I can't remember Dan delivering a really above par Time Trial before. His previous better results in TTs seemed be on a level with the slight climber type lads, but not anywhere near the GC TT beasts.

I think that chart is understating the loss that Dan/Carapaz will have, and overstating that of Roglic and Mas

I would love to see it play out like that but as relativity says above I think it's a bit too pro Dan Martin, and the reality will be a good bit worse.

Yeah, if Dan is in 2nd after today, it'll be far more of a shock to me than Pogacar's win at the time trial in the Tour.

    Go on Dan!!

Some job by barta, the glasses half hanging off him!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,113 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

Early doors Carthy seemed to be bang on Oliviera's pace.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,305 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Carthy's lower arms are tiny, like chicken bones.

Dan faster than Mas through the first checkpoint, didn't expect that!

Dan 36s down on Bartra at first check

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,113 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

Carthy 25s up on Dan at that check :(

That's a crazy fast time for Carthy

    GC gaps at first check

    Carthy
    Roglic +2s
    Carapaz +4s
    Martin + 25s
    Mas + 33s

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,054 ✭✭✭Doc07

Dan up on Mas but unfortunately for Dan Carthy is having a great TT

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,251 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

Carapaz is having a good ride too? Would be interesting for the race if Roglic had to attack I think

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,305 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Roglic not blowing everyone away on the TT? This is all very familiar....

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,245 ✭✭✭check_six

Ok, so Dan is going decent so far. That's great.

Bold prediction time here is that Carthy is overcooking it on the flat...! (fingers crossed)

Dan ahead of Mas at the second point is a big shock. Maybe he overlooked it too ;)

In fairness the TdF was more a case of Pogacar going and winning the thing rather than Roglic throwing it away, I felt.
