Bold prediction time here is that Carthy is overcooking it on the flat...! (fingers crossed)

He's 7 seconds up on Cavagna at the intermediate!

Dan ahead of Mas at the second point is a big shock. Maybe he overlooked it too ;)

Dan's cooking is still bubbling along nicely at 25km. Carthy has flames leaping from the oven at this point (I hope!). His cake will be ruined!

    Roglic
    Carthy +1
    Carapz + 19

Dan 13th on the day. That’s easily his best ever ITT

Edit - Dan made up time on Carthy on the hill...

5 fastest between timing point 2 and the finish.

    Roglic 16:05
    Martin 16:21
    Barta 16:22
    Carthy 16:29
    Cattaneo 16:30

Roglic looked like he took the foot off the pedal a bit for the 5k before the climb. He put over 20s on carapaz on the climb

Although that was printed before Carapaz finished and PCS don't have his final split time yet!

Do they give time BONI-fications on the TT?

Dan is in a tough place now where he is too close to first to be allowed attack Cathy but still need to make a minute which is too much to gain on little 500m breaks with Rog.

Fair play though that was some crazy TT by his standards

It depends on whether Carapaz and Carthy think they can win it or not. If they do, Dan might sneak on to podium while they mark each other

If they race to defend their podium, then it’ll be very tough for him

Still a great performance by him to be fair

Yeah, Dan did a great effort there. Delighted for him.

Carthy managed to exceed all expectations and somehow did not ruin his dinner with any overcooking. We're going to get some interesting racing over the next few days!

Dan should have dinner with Movistar team tonight and devise some mischief for Wed or Thursdays stage.
While he’s at it he may let his own teammates off home early.

If Carthy stays in third til Madrid then he deserves his podium tbh. But the hope is that he has burnt one too many matches over the last two stages and that Dan will get at least one opportunity to put time into him in the remaining mountains. I have a feeling that it will really depend on how Ineos and Movistar ride... if things explode, it might be to Dan's advantage in that he will be able to piggy-back the attacks and Carthy will be forced to work. If he has the legs to hold Dan off then he deserves his 3rd and Dan can be content that there's nothing more he could have done. A pretty faultless Vuelta so far from him.

A bit of Nairoman/Contador shenanigans and Dan could still win this. If I was him ide be glued to Carapaz as he is gonna try something like this I reckon

Without the bonifications the top 4 would be even closer:

    Roglic 49:16:58
    Carapaz 49:17:11 +00:00:13
    Carthy 49:17:13 +00:00:15
    Martin 49:18:20 +00:01:22

Yeah - Mas and Carapaz look like the wheels to follow. TJV and Ineos could end up cancelling each other out, but EF could be exposed if they have to work to bring back breaks. Should be an exciting few days. Having said that, now it'll probably be a TJV snoozefest train all the way to Madrid!
