Isn't that what happened in 2016?

    A vote against Clinton?

Watching CNN here, talking about Biden being a leader and a hero. Can't be just me, I'm not impressed with Biden at all. I'm not an expert but I would say his victory is more down to people wanting Trump out more than wanting Biden in.
He is the anti-Trump but he's also very good at working with people of all hues, a very key skillset at present.

why is Biden camp wanting to get to 270 and declare so fast if the above is above board.

Biden/Dems better make regular people's lives better, by all and any means possible, or there'll be a queue of Trumps facing them in 2024.

I'd say it must be absolutely killing Trump with the pace of his protracted demise.

I picture many things being flung around the White House :D

Like the demise of the baddy in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Yes, anyone instead of Trump but still, he's not very impressive.

Biden is essentially a "horse for courses" selection.

He was the only possible candidate on the Democratic side that could have won this Election.

Any of the others that put themselves forward would not have been in the ball game in those mid-west States , that's just reality.

As I said earlier , the Democrats need to use the next few years to work on a story that resonates with voters outside the blue cities and find a voice to tell it.

I actually don't think that is Kamala Harris either to be honest in the long term.

She again was a "horses for courses" choice to bridge the gap between Biden and the left wing of the party to avoid the "Bernie Bros" impact from 2016.

There is a delicious ironic beauty in Mike Pence losing his job to a woman.
How? It's not like he has any input into this or anything he could do about it.
I despise the man but there's nothing in that.
Even if it was a gay person it'd mean nothing.

On Tuesday they said the election was over. Now they don’t want it over? Team Trump has a bipolar disorder.

Oh right, I don't know much about all of that. I'm just going on what I've seen at press conferences, interviews etc. He seems very insincere but I've never met the man.

Don't forget McConnell in the Senate - there's more than one leg to the US government.

dont get how this is exciting, from wed morning it was obvious biden had it, they really should have counted mail in first, then trump wouldnt be whingeing so much.

Trump is not a likeable person. He has a bad mouth on him and many people can see he's a bad leader. His stance on covid was atrocious and not so long ago coming out and telling his people that covid is nothing to be feared. That message travelled across the world and to be quite honest, it's very dangerous. Governments the world over was trying to control the spread of this novel coronavirus and for very good reason, and Trumps message would have given many people a license to ignore guidelines on isolation and testing and other public health measures.

He's not a good person and he only really cares about himself. He's obnoxious and arrogant and he has a bad, filthy mouth on him. Definitely not something you would want to see in a leader of a country.

It's exciting because so many people the world over wants to see him out. For a few days it was very close between the two of them.

Imagine if the democrats win the 2 senate seats in Georgia to take control of that house ... Conservatives will self combust :)

Democrats are going to throw everything at them races, expect to see President elect Biden have rally’s across the state.

2 years ago on here I was saying Biden would be the only one to beat Trump. Trump knew that himself hence the attempt to get dirt on Biden by asking Ukraine for which he was ultimately impeached.

And Trump saw big rise in votes this time around but still lost...

Democrats underestimated Trump in 2016 but Republicans massively underestimated Biden this time around. If I had a euro for every 'Biden is a terrible candidate' and/or 'landslide win for Trump' post i read on boards.ie over past 2 years I would be very rich.

Which would lose them the WH in the US right now...

If the Democrats want to consistently win in the Senate and indeed win the WH with the ease that they win the overall popular vote , they absolutely MUST find a way to connect with voters outside the Urban/Suburban areas.

For all their merits , AOC et al are not that connection.

Look at the Senate and House races - They did pretty poorly because they don't have a message to reach those voters.

Equally - The GOP will never take back the house unless they find a way to connect with Urban voters.

I wanted Sanders at the start of the year, but think that ultimately Biden was the right choice.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out, this election could be an outlier in that all the focus on Trump made it a 'for him or against him' election even in relation to other races on the ballot.
AOC et al (i.e. the squad) were all returned which I think is pretty significant in terms of 'the progressives'.

What I am drawing from this election however, (and we are a long way from the dust settling) is that outside of urban areas, the country is hugely, overwhelmingly republican, or at least Pro-Trump and it is interesting to know is that because they are steadfast republicans, they are staunchly conservative, or they are simply Trump fans.

Looking at the county by county preference (red v blue) for each state is incredible. Many states Biden won did so with only 20% or less of the counties voting for him (And I know, counties don't vote, people do) but it paints a picture of maybe it's not that the current progressives failed, but that the country is just not ready for progressive steps. And I think Trumps anti-science, anti-climate rhetoric was likely a significant influence in this respect.

That news of Fox is ironic because they have Biden closest to 270 because of the early call of AZ. So they'll be the first to call him winner of the election but won't call him President elect owing to the legal actions.

Indeed - He won't let a single thing through.

There will need to be significant spending to dig the US out of the hole it's in and McConnell won't approve a penny.

We don't know if anyone else would have won, we'll never know but I think they would have had. Biden didn't get the record level of votes for his charisma, that's for sure.

Yeah it's hard to know how much of the Dem vote were pro-Biden or more anti-Trump
