We use an post in work (and dpd and ups)

Email from an post yesterday, Cork city and surrounding areas experiencing 4-5 day delay, rest of country 3 day delay.

Additional capacity brought forward and in force since Monday.

7 day parcel delivery in urban areas. 6 day delivery all areas.

Specific delay from last week to be cleared by Thursday (tomorrow)

Today we got email from dpd, again huge volume causing delays. Allow up to three additional days to normal timeframes. And as per an post claiming huge additional investment.

In terms of international parcels, an post use airfreight, so plenty of delays due to lack of flights.

Where I work, we've moved all European documents / packages to dpd as they use sea/road and we know that a package will get to Germany within 5 days whereas with post you are dependent on flights. The German facility has also moved to a road/sea forwarding for UK and here.

It's what it is at present.

Mod: I’ve split this off from An Post delays thread as its very important. If anyone gets any official info we should post it here. I hope Darc19 doesn’t mind.

    From UPS email:

Please note, in order to ensure that we continue to give you and your customers the highest quality of service during this busy period, from November 30th until December 27th 2020, standard domestic and EU shipments distributed via our ground network may require an additional day of time in transit. Our time and cost calculator will automatically reflect this additional day in the delivery date displayed. However, we are confident that we can deliver the vast majority of shipments without any delay.

Just want to confirm Darc19's post.

2 out of my 5 overseas parcels have now been delivered and 2 more have now their tracking info updated and are due to get delivered later today. There is light at the end of tunnel.

Spoke to a Fastway driver yesterday. He was on his 17th straight day without a break. He looked shattered.

    An Post Update

    Dear Customer,
Our parcel volumes have continuously increased since October and as we have been receiving volume in excess of our overall capacity for some time, we have now reached a backlog level that forces us to take immediate and decisive action. As per our most recent communication informing you that we are currently experiencing delays of 7 days, unfortunately, in the interest of fulfilling customers' expectations, we have no other choice than to bring forward our latest date of posting before Christmas to Monday 14th December.

This means that we cannot guarantee that parcels injected into the An Post Commerce's network from Tuesday 15th December will be delivered before Christmas day.

This has been an extremely difficult decision for us to make and we fully appreciate that you will be dissatisfied by it. Nevertheless, at this point in time, we have no other option in order to avoid potentially disappointing your consumers.

    Yours sincerely,

Got above too. Seems black Friday volume was crazy and really only feeding into the system late last week.

They have taken the old Johnson Mooney and obrien bread factory in finglas as a holding center as Merrywell and the two Parkwest facilities were getting clogged.

    Parcelforce/GLS update:
GLS Ireland have advised that they are experiencing huge volumes of parcels into their network and in order to process and deliver all parcels before Christmas successfully, request that parcels are sent earlier than shown in the current last posting dates messaging here

Therefore, in order to achieve delivery before Christmas, it is requested that parcels are sent into the Parcelforce network no later than Monday 14 December.

Parcel posted in Carrick on Suir on Friday afternoon was delivered (with a good bit of chat about who the recipients were) in a very rural part of Connemara on Saturday (yesterday).

UPS Standard shipments to/from Ireland to Europe suspended:

Due to measures taken by the French government to temporarily close its border with the UK, UPS has temporarily suspended ground shipments between the UK/Ireland and continental Europe until further notice. UPS Express shipments are currently not impacted by these measures, but may be delayed to due an increase in volume. We continue to closely monitor the situation and have put contingency plans in place to minimize disruption for our customers. Customers wanting to know the status of their shipment can track their packages on UPS.com.

Deutsche Post DHL has halted all deliveries of parcels to Ireland and Britain as a result of transport restrictions that have been put in place by a number of countries due to the new strain of Covid-19 that has been identified in Britain.

Shipments from mainland Europe to Ireland suspended.

A particularly contagious mutation of the coronavirus is currently occurring in the United Kingdom (UK). The European Union reacted to this report with restrictive measures, banning flights from the United Kingdom and largely closing the Eurotunnel.

Due to these EU-wide pandemic measures, the movement of goods between Great Britain and the EU is currently very severely disrupted. This also applies to cross-border parcel flows at DPD. Therefore, parcel shipping to and from the UK and Ireland is suspended until further notice. DPD asks for your understanding for this measure. Many Thanks!
