The SuperValu in the Pavilion has a brilliant bakery section. Loads to choose from and usually delicious.

I think Thunders have the best scones. And now I want one.

What was the name of the bakery that was on the main street about 20 years ago? Down beside the castle, it was a bakery but it was also the best place in the village for breakfast/lunch rolls. The name Clarke's comes to mind but I could be mixing it up with the similarly amazing bakery breakfast rolls in the Clarke's in Cabra.

    That's probably Thunders now?

That rings a bell. I don't think it was where Thunders is now, maybe next door.

Yes I think it was next door. Rooney's Insurance who did Q4U was probably where Thunders is now.

La Boulangerie Francaise is an excellent all round Bakery, they don't so much specialise in cakes for eat in or take away, but they do lovely bread, cakes and lunches. They also do awesome cakes to order for special occasions!

Alan's hot bread shop.... before I moved to Swords, 30 years ago, I used to come out to get cakes there. OMG. Delicious.

You're right! And Miller's cafe was there afterwards.

They do indeed do very nice breads and cakes but they are so expensive. Very much a now-and-again treat for myself.

Agreed. An amazing Croque Monsieur but from a calorie and cost POV, it's an irregular treat.

BINGO! That's the one. Jaysis i used to get some feed in there. I'd get a breakfast roll for the walk back to work and then a chicken fillet roll for my lunch break in work. Good times :D

I still head up to the chuck wagon for breakfast or brunch from time to time, can't beat the works sandwiched between soda!

Although it takes an age to get served. 40 minutes from arriving to leaving last week when I was there.

    Worth it though!

You can order over the phone :)

That you can, and so I do, cuts the wait down to 5-10mins if unlucky!

You're right! And Miller's cafe was there afterwards.
Alan's bakery was where four star is now. Miller's used to be an insurance place I think. I must have been between 4 to 10, my mother on a Friday would get us all danishs and a Vienna roll sliced up, sliced ham and coleslaw with grated cheese on top each Friday. Nicest ever. Then it closed. :( Some Fridays we may have gotten chicken in chips in a basket in the star.
Clarke's bakery in Cabra is pretty good. Mad scone in phibsboro too is great.
