Companies can't say they got something wrong, they say unforeseen complications or best choice with the information on hand or try to be vague and hide things and say it's the best game released on a Tuesday in February.

If they say they made the wrong choice then all that means is they can make the wrong choice again.

Spent €90 pre-ordering the gold edition of this on Xbox and I will feel robbed if this goes free to play.

Maybe we'll be able to apply for a refund then with a low play count. I'm certainly going to try for a refund at some point. I've only three hours played and apparently it's easy with less than two.

BF looks and plays great on PC, of course it's going to look crap on some ancient console, every game looks crap.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think a company that managed to destroy a well established franchise through pure greed is going to be offering refunds to people who don't like the game. Id have to question the sanity of anyone who is still preordering games or paying stupid amounts of money for gold editions.

I did neither but I did a digital buy from Brazil after it launched.

That's how I'm stuck with a digital version.

I don't think I used the trial so should have done that first and I'd have avoided it but just didn't think if would be THIS bad.

Anyway I'm back playing BF1 and enjoying it. Even NA servers aren't too bad if I see a map there that's good.

There's a good few maps here I hadn't played or only played a few times.

Back tearing it up solo with the Huot and grenade rifle... MVPs every 2/3 games.

    Good fun.

Playing on Xbox if anyone is playing from here.

    GilbertoGalway.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it's in a relatively playable state a year from now. They had just gotten BF5 to a point when it was decent and then they decided they needed another few hundred million dollars so they ditched it and moved on to BF2042. Maybe they'll do the same thing now?

    Season 1 is out today

    Yay

1 whole new map to play with

Unfortunately, the servers are completely screwed and the vast majority of users cannot get in

    Good work EA

Been playing this the last 4 or 5 nights and it is in good shape. New map is great, and the recent improvements to bullet drop off at distance means you don't get one shot killed from 400m by a sub machine gun any more.

It could do with a bit more if a tweak but it is close.

Battlepass is well done. You do missions to earn points. Ten points per rank. So easy enough to rank up and gets you trying new things.

Have found myself playing about 2 hours a night and it's been a long time since I even wanted to play more than one 20 min game.

Agree, it really needed the extra time in the oven before releasing to backlash, new map is excellent and have been pretty much playing that exclusively. Weekly missions are handy and unlocked a few bits and pieces. It's going in the right direction but still needs a bit more meat on the bone.

New map is brilliant. The game is really fun right now. Its still missing some important features which should have been there at launch. If this was a newly released game it would be 8/10 but its too little too late. The roadmap is glacial and the old maps are rubbish

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

The conquest exodus was good. 64 player conquest on all the portal maps. Really made the game feel like it had depth. And it was in the all out warfare section, not tucked away in portal.

New week of missions and a new exposure 64 player breakthrough 24/7 option. It was a bit hit and miss if you got it or the maps with the ships last week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,408 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

The game is dead now. Week 3 of the season one battlepass and I can't start a game of conquest in the evening. Can barely reach the minimum of 32 to start the server

Have you turned cross-play off? I've no problem getting into a game and that's with a party of 4, going into Exodus Conquest...

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Servers are filled in seconds for me at any time in the day and I've cross play off.

Season one has been a big success and there are Thousands are playing it again.

Conquest exodus, breakthrough exposure and the Rush Chaos are all jam packed.

It's not really the same studio that made Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V to be honest. There has been a huge turnover of staff since Battlefield V, including a lot of senior talent. The development of 2042 seems to have been all over the place as a result.

The player stats have made a decent recovery since the release of Season 1, but DICE need to be following it up with a continuous feed of content. The player numbers are already starting to decline. It was managing to achieve close to 15,000 concurrent players at peak times but it's struggling to stay over 10,000 during the peak already.

I think it was a bug. I'm on xbox and it was always slow to have crossways turned off. So I left it on. When I had crossplay turned on, it wasn't matchmaking properly. Then I turned crossplay off and it filled quickly but I was playing with PC players.

The new map is great and I've been having a great time in the Hind flying around dodging Liz's missiles. Seriously gas craic. Reminded me of Top gun 2 on the NES.

You're probably right though, the speed of development only points towards them ditching it after 12 months

No way am I pre-ordering another game ever again.

New patch yesterday so jumped on for the 1st time in a while, starting to feel like a BF game but still something not right.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,259 ✭✭✭Shlippery

They're definitely moving in the right direction, I've been playing it more and more but it's still missing a lot.

New profile /stats page added feels barebones. I've played the new map to death but still needs more and apparently only one map coming with Season 2.

It really needed a lot more time in the oven. They're spending the past months trying to fix mistakes and poor direction instead of adding new content and expanding on a polished product.

i reinstalled it during the week and to be honest its still completely lacking in atmosphere.. it just feels so sterile...

what they should do is expand squads to 6-8 people and enforce squad spawning to make people play more as a squad.

Gonna uninstall it again as I think its dead and buried now no matter what they do.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Been playing it non stop all season one. It's great, having some great games and the player base is all solid now. It's more like 8 good games and 2 bad ones out of ten now.

Reworking of kaleidoscope turned out good too. I've nearly all the weekly missions done. Really helps that they stay available if you miss them. Sometimes I've got over 30 battle points in one round.

Missions have definitely helped get people playing as they should, reviving, dropping ammo, working as teams.

    Roll on season two.

They're returning to a class based system, with the current specialists becoming variants within that class.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,408 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

They're listening, but the amount of content in season 2 is so bad

2 new weapons, 1 new map (which is another stranded boat map.....), 2 revamps to the broken launch maps..

They're bringing in 'audio improvements' but it's restricted to voice lines, but the score and the overall aural immersion in game needs a massive improvement.

Looks like they're using the next few months before they stop supporting BF2042 as a paid alpha to test design and scope for the next game?

They're not actually fixing this game, they're using this game to market test the next game.

Which they'll probably screw up unless they've figured out that the next game is the very super duper last chance saloon for Battlefield.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,434 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

agreed...unless they revert back to classic Battlefield mode the next game will end DICE or the franchise for a few years at least. They've simply burnt too many bridges and their greed is biting them in the ass.

No way will I be buying the next game until at least a few weeks after launch.

So, 2042 gets classes with patch 3.2 in a few weeks time.

I've gone back to playing it recently, and it's fun enough in short doses. The setting still feels hollow and soulless with PMCs though.

Cant believe it but im having a blast with this since the October input lag update.

I only play the smaller 64 player modes, exodus conquest and flash back breakthrough in particular, some old school remastered maps in there and they made dramatic changes to some default maps making them actually good maps now.

Im still not a fan of specialists so im looking forward to the class system.

Seriously anyone who like me ditched this soon after release really ned to check it out, its so much better now.

There does seem to a growing consensus that the game is now much improved. But I suspect it's too little too late now. There's not going to a No Man's Sky/Cyberpunk 2077 style redemption arc, people have just moved on. They plan some free weekends, which may give the numbers a little bump at best.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Conquest blitz was a featured mode in portal. It's conquest and breakthrough kinda fused. One attacks and one defends. You have to take all the points in a sector (1 or 2 points). But once you have them you can't lose it.

Starts off with smaller battles and routes to run some classic flanking manoeuvres. Then all piles into a big battle for the last one.

Persistent servers seems to be helping the player made modes. Looking at the server browser there are now loads full.
