The poll speaks for itself. In the past people would have been afraid to admit that they broke restrictions. The hysteria brigade would have labelled them granny killers or right wing lunatics.

People just don’t care anymore. It’s time to move on and accept that a tiny percentage will die with Covid.

Even with a vaccine, most of those deaths will die anyways of their primary illness. Excess deaths for the year proves that.

We're sticking to the rules more or less but thats mainly because everything is closed. I have little or no faith in the way cases and deaths are being reported (significant amount of smoke and mirrors being played with the statistics) and I believe a government that enforces obedience via fear and diktat will see time run out on it's legitimacy. Level 5 type restrictions is not "living with the virus".

The problem with the government is that they wont have any debate or answer questions about what they are doing apart from Tubridy asking them safe cherry picked questions.

I'd say the Gardai are fed up of the nonsense as well.

The Guards have almost completely stopped policing the 5k rule. During the first lockdown I was stopped by them every day after work. During this one there have been no Guards at all in my area after day 2 of lockdown.

They have better things to be doing than policing some nonsense rule that benefits nobody.

I agree. As long as case numbers are coming down I doubt that the Garda hierarchy or the commissioner or the minister for justice is putting any pressure on them to do so. Would have been different if cases were still going up

I’m pretty relaxed about this lockdown. Not saying I am 100% in compliance.....but not taking the proverbial and not worried about what other people are doing at all. I think that the balance is about right

I have only encountered checkpoints Monday to Friday during work commute times, none on the weekends!

It would seem there is no need for any restrictions, lock ups, etc.

I'm abiding by some of the rules but certainly not all of them.

I still go home to see my parents every couple of days but that's only because I've not seen any of my friends and they're the only people in my social bubble at the moment.

Certainly not abiding by the 5km rule. If I want to drive 10km to a nice park for a walk with the dog by myself I don't see the harm in doing so.

I agree with some of the rules like reducing your social contact and not having people over to your house but we still need to live and interact with people especially now as we approach the winter months.

There has to be some give and take and we need to learn to live with this virus or else we're just going to be in lockdown every 6 months with more businesses closing.

Followed the restrictions to the letter the first time around back in April/May, didn't see my partner for about 8 weeks, didn't leave the 2km or 5km from my house, didn't see anyone outside of my household until the end of May.

This time around I'm not doing that again, I voted for option 4 but at the same time I'm not exactly attending house parties every day. Since level 5 had come in I've visited my parents once but other than that haven't seen anyone outside my house and work. I will limit my movements but not totally stop altogether, I wouldn't hesitate or feel guilty about going over to a friends house for example but at the same time won't take the complete piss with it either.

In April/May I only saw 3 people in the space of 2 months nearly. Now I am in a room with almost 30 every single day in work, so I am not going to feel guilty for seeing a friend or family member on a weekend.

Slightly off topic but Hi Ferris haven't seen ya in ages, even on Gigs and Events, hoping your hanging in there in the nil festival/gigs period, I'm really missing the live events myself but its all for the common good hopefully. Keep safe and I hope to meet ya at future events, be it 2021 or 2022. :)

yes but becoming increasingly exasperated by the me fein approach by many parents . Where do they think their droves of teenagers are for 4 aNd 5 hours after school each day? Why are they bringing 3 kids unmasked to the shop and letting them run up & down the aisles. Why are they bringing them unmasked to take aways where there are signs on the door saying masked customers only, one at a time and no children allowed in the shop? What is it about the self entitled in the middle of a global
    medical emergency that makes
them think the rules don’t apply to them and they can pick and choose their favourites and just use them.

Can’t wait til they bring in covid paddywaggons & tulsa for wandering kids and restrictions
police with powers to fine & megafines and convictions like in the uk.

As for police -havn’t seen a single checkpoint this lockdown -last time there would have been 2 or 3 within a 5k circle. Maybe the overtime budget is all used up -or maybe they don’t give s **** themselves either.

Maybe the way to start will be using the
covid tracker to start reporting people not complying. Can’t wait.

This lockdown is a joke. Lockdown, what lockdown?

I was parked in the Square Shopping Centre last night at approx 6:30pm (doing click and collect) and there were literally gangs of teenagers roving in big groups of 10, 20 - blocking the entrance and exit to the centre. Their parents should be ashamed.

Please don't give me any excuse that they "need to socialise". They are in school for 6+ hours a day with their peers, 5 days a week.

Same experience in Costa with kids. Takeaway only but woman goes in, (wearing mask over her mouth only, nose uncovered of course, which she then pulls down to shout her order at the barista) and three unmasked children trailing behind her. Why not leave the children outside, ffs? They were at least 8-12 years old. Or go to a McDs drive-thru if you're jonesing that desperately for a takeaway latte. (Which is what I now do, its safer).

But no, the whingers will continue to whinge when the restrictions are extended.

Seems logical enough to me. Whinge about restrictions and then ignore them when they are implemented.
Why would they be extended? Cases are falling like a stone, probably even looks like we didn't need Level 5.

Not smart to be wanting to get covid at 92. Nothing brave about it, just reckless really. Plenty of ways to socialise without putting his health at undue risk

Excuse me but the words I quoted were verbatim from my neighbour. And ,yes, he has used Dublin bus to get in and out of the city.

Reckless ...I don't think so.. He enjoys life. Why should he feel imprisoned

If the guards did any part of their job I would be happy enough. Multiple new cars on my street, purchased mid lockdown, driving around on L plates for a few weeks, then they just take the L plates off (miracle right? from "L" to "full licence" apparently ins matter of weeks with no "N" plates in between). They are going where they like on a daily basis unfettered. Completely illegal, effectively an uninsured driver as the insurance is invalid in this instance. And despite apparent "checkpoints", they are never stopped/it doesn't hinder such behaviour.

I also have family working frontline in hospitals and they don't feel under increased pressure. Especially compared to this time a couple of years ago when they were having to wade through patients on trolleys.

Yet again, fair enough if that's your experience. I have siblings and children working as Doctors and nurses in hospitals where they are struggling with the stress of ICU patients, covid patients, staff shortages due to covid and self isolating, and having to prioritise patients based on needs versus reducing ability to manage resources. They say it's worse than any flu season crisis they have had in the past. They say ER is quieter, as are some surgical wards, but they are generally under extreme pressure to keep their heads above water.

Perhaps there would be more compliance if we didn’t have the longest/strictest lockdown and restrictions in Europe?

Maybe they are driving with their sponsor? Maybe they passed the test? Maybe someone with a full license is driving the car?

Lot of curtain twitching going on in here.

No sponsor unless they're invisible. You a) Can't pass a test in this state and just decide to remove L plates. N plates must be displayed for a year afterwards. b) Some are just plain driving unaccompanied with L plates visibly displayed. c) It's literally visible right outside my door, no twitching required.

It's especially sickening because I had lessons booked and planned to do a test back in March. Lockdown scuppered that. Have eventually managed to get lessons done and test date coming up.

Much like the lockdown itself, you jump through hoops to abide by the law and do the things the right way, while watching others fragrantly operate outside the law with impunity. Sickens my ****e. You either have rules/laws and enforce them fully or you don't and just admit it's a banana republic.

When we pick and choose with logic and common sense, yes.

It is and always has been the country we have lived in.

Glad you clarified as that does seem to be a common position here: "I should be left do what I want, when I want and face no consequences".

Multiple houses in my area are clearly ignoring the household restriction. Only this afternoon watching tribes of people walk in and out of houses laughing and joking, I honestly hope they spread amongst themselves and get ill.
I've been restricted from all the things that I like and get on with what has been asked from me, these plebs ignore it and will probably cause the poxy lockdown to be longer..

Read my post again. I was at the Square using Click and Collect which does not involve entering the centre.

Also I stopped going to Costa because of the behaviour like the woman above - I now go to the drive thru McDs if I want a takeaway coffee. Also allowed, and lower risk.

What I would NOT do is allow my teenager to roam the streets during a pandemic, nor would I drag a gang of unmasked primary school age kids who've been in school all week and probably could be or have been in contact with god knows how many asymptomatic cases, into a coffee shop with me, when they could wait outside.

I'm high risk, I live with someone who is very high risk. So yes, other people being reckless and lacksidasical increases the chances of people like me contracting covid and that makes me annoyed.

The restrictions work if followed. Its not following them that delays everything for everyone. I don't understand why some people can't see this.

As for the timeframe - sorry, no one can give you a end date on this so why do you expect one? It will take, however long it takes. The risk isn't minimised just because you're bored with it.

So you live with someone who is high risk yet you went to Costa and McDonalds? Upon witnessing the utter chaos in said shops you now just use the drive thrus for your seemingly very important takeaway coffee.
