Honor Magicbook 15

Sorry for the repetitive post all! I've decided on the recommendation of glasso to go for the honor Magicbook, pretty sure I'll get the 15 as I will be using it for streaming movies amongst other stuff.

I am just on the fence about where to buy from, and if I need the 512gb model. I won't be doing anything major on it, some college work, watching movies, browsing.

It seems to be available for £499 on Amazon in what I'm assuming is the 256gb?

There is also a bundle with the 512gb for £599 on the UK honor site at the moment.

Is it worth paying the extra £100 do you think? Sorry I'm just on the fence.

not really worth the extra 100 tbh

if down the line you really need the storage cheaper to replace the m.2 ssd in there yourself with a 512gb one

once you lay off storing a lot of media files like movies or large games on it 256gb is ok

also amazon customer service probably easier to deal with if needed

also re 15 vs 14 just know that the battery is bigger in the 14 and it has keyboard backlighting which the 15 does not have

but if you get the 15 you can add a cheap sata 2.5 inch ssd if you buy this kit

as there is space in the 15 for it

for the 14 you'd have to swap out the m.2 ssd for a larger one

Thanks so much for going through all that, that's brilliant. Excellent point about dealing with Amazon I think that has swung it for me!

Your last note has me second guessing my decision on the size. It's mostly for at home so I felt I might like the bigger display, I wonder will the battery disappoint... I guess if I'm at home it's not a sticking point.

I think that it's something like 4.5/5 hrs (maybe more on battery saver mode of course) vs 6/6.5 hrs (this is real-world not the ideal case from manufacturers)

the 15 does give you the option to add a cheap 2.5 inch ssd (e.g. 26 £ or so for another 256gb) with that kit

the 14 you'd have to replace the existing m.2 format ssd with a bigger one, no option to add.

if you think that portability and longer battery life are an issue maybe consider the 14 , else the 15 for the bigger screen and is not heavy either just shorter battery life (and no lights under the keys). 15 is usually cheaper also

The one on Amazon has the ryzen 3500
The one on their site has the 4500

I am looking at getting the 14" one.
Can someone advise me if this would be good enough for a bit of photo editing?
Main use is only browsing etc. But the time has finally come to replace my 9 year old samsung RC520 which has served me fantastic.

the cpu on either is fine

only thing that while the IPS screen is good for normal use like watching movies it's not a particularly colour accurate if you need a high value on that for really accurate photo editing

On a percentage scale, out of 100%, what would you score it?
I am not in photography for profit, just a hobby.

It's a great laptop overall

If you are only editing photos for a hobby will most likely not make much difference really I would say - simply pointing that out.

That Matebook looks impressive.
Can you tell me if a screen is fhd, is that the same as a 2k screen?
I have been out of the loop with a few years so am unsure of some features.
