Good shoe fit using sizing in cm?

Looking to pick up a first pair of clipless SPD shoes. I notice there seems to be lots of issues around sizing (shimano being small and narrow, dhb being larger and wide). I'm a size 9 in runners but measured my foot as 26.5cm and have a narrow foot. Bearing in mind the current lockdown and my inability to get into a local shop, would using foot size in cm instead of UK sizing allow for a decent fit in new shoes? Thanks

Hi, For what its worth I am comfortable with Shimano SPD shoes size 44 and foot measured at 27.2 cms.

Am a size nine & 43 always works for me.
Only wear shimano Mtb's & never an issue, think my foot type would be on the narrow side.

I always use the CM measurement for shoes as the euro sizing appears to be whatever the manufacturer decides themselves and not based on anything concrete.

I have 43.5, 44 and 44.5 shoes and all fit me the same.

Some brands like Sidi (who are known for producing narrow shoes) make printable sizing charts so you can measure your feet and match their sizing.

I'm a 9.5 in regular shoes and runners. My foot is 27.5 and 44 is the only size all I've ever worn cycling.


Shimano 44 is a perfect fit in their MTB shoes. On the road bike, in the past DHB 44 were slightly small but OK and current Gaerne 44 are spot on.

Something else to consider, once you've had loads of fun tracing your foot, is the shape of the last. When you look down at a shoe, it should look vaguely similar to the shape of your foot.
