Surely if they are planning to build an 11 story building, they will be digging a pretty big hole in the ground for foundations? Shouldn’t be an issue to put parking in here.

Are you sure? Pile driving might be occurring here. Would depend on the ground conditions onsite. Underground car parks are usually far more expensive to build than a surface multi-story.

With a cemetery on one boundary side and a working docks across the road I would think that excavation/pile driving etc was quickly deleted from any thoughts.

Looks like what really upset the Council though was the following

“It appears as if the developer is wholly reliant on the use of public road space, by means of a drop off layby, to manage deliveries of goods and services and the collection of waste arising from the operation of the completed development.”

Something similar could be said about the raddisson/galmont/whatever it's called this week.

It's a good point to be upset about. Alongside pickup/dropoff of guests.

But almost any development there will have access challenges: It's a very difficult site in terms of road access, pretty much the only access point is right on the corner due to the heritage cemetery on one side, and the protected wall on the other side.

Pass by any time between 7am and 11am and view the laundry cages out for collection and the bins on some days.

The apartments on the rhs of the docks have underground parking, least that's what I was told but now that I'm looking at it on Google maps street view it looks like there is a multi storey section of the the first apartments (beside the steamship buolding) for parking.

Dun Aengus and the one at the end don't seem to have parking access unless I'm missing something.

Unless someone has info about parking for those apartment blocks, it looks like I may have been misinformed, mea culpa

No your not.
Queen St has underground parking beside Lavelles Pharmacy. Probably only -1G? Never been in it.
Not exactly Docks - just around the corner on (Forthill St) Ross House has one only -1G basement car parking.

You would rather have a derelict site sitting in the city center than build a modern urban center that would attract foreign companies to come and set up new operations in Galway thus providing more jobs. With your attitude we might as well just keep building bungalows and contribute to city sprawl. Lets add 10,000 houses to Knocknacarra and Roscam without adding a single road or improvement to the infrastructure. Who cares if commute from Knocknacarra to Parkmore take 1 hour or 3 hours.

Wasn't specifically pointing at you, just people in general. There's been plenty of old run down places or wastelands that were suppose to be turned into something but the "reject everything" crowd got onto it.
The planning laws need some serious revision, if we want to see any sort of progress in Galway.
Every city in the world are currently competing with each other for investment and capital, so we should make it easier for new developments, not to derail them every time because person a doesn't like the look of it, or person b just doesn't like change.

A modern quarter down the docks, juxtaposed against the medieval quarter in the old city is a great lead forward for the city in my opinion. Creates distinct districts with their own character. Eyre Square and environs should take on a mixed character, preserving the existing streetscape with well planned addition of well designed building in keeping with the citys character
