Are contract of indefinite duration and permanent not the same thing?

What's the difference between substitute and acting?

The government decided about 10 years ago that permanent sounded bad so they got rid of it. It's essentially the same thing. I've heard people say one has more protection as a CID (not sure about that) as it's an EU term so EU law etc.

Acting is generally used for when you're taking on someone's role for a while, normally a principal or DP role. And subbing is if a teacher is out and you're teaching their classes.
