Hi All. Can health insurance be cancelled and claims reclaimed by the provider if a slightly incorrect date of birth was provided originally by accident? 2 days the difference. It wasn’t picked up as the person thought it was their birth date so provided it subsequently.

I can't say for certain, but most insurers will try to find a reason not to pay out.

When you originally applied for insurance you provided incorrect birthdate.
When they sent out documents for review ? You didn't review and correct the date.

How could the person applying for health insurance not know their own birth date ? And use the incorrect date in subsequent dates.... something isn't correct here, I have young kids and they know their birth date.

Now that you have submitted a claim you want to correct errors, why ?

As far as insurance company are concerned you are the person who was insured, how do you know that you provided the incorrect birth date and it wasn't incorrectly entered by staff member ?

Does the birth date have any impact on the claim ?

There is no such thing as a slightly incorrect date, it’s a question of fact. Either the date is right or it’s wrong. In entering into an insurance contract you are required to accurately provide all of the information requested and any other information that might impact the insurance terms. A failure to do so will definitely give the insurance company grounds to cancel your insurance. Weather it holds up in court is another matter and on that it might be worth consulting a solicitor.

That said, it seems a little bizarre for an adult not to know their date of birth. By the time one gets to adulthood one would have provided it countless times from under age sports events to a driving license application....

And what lead the insurance company to discover the issue? Was the information volunteered or discovered as part of an investigation?

Your age would be considered a 'material fact' when it comes to motor insurance but medical insurance costs the same regardless of your age. So would the insurance company still be within their rights in cancelling a policy for a trivial typing mistake, where someone miskeyed their DOB and it was out by just two days?

I can't see any insurance company renouncing the policy for that type of error.
