The ps4 is like a 767 engine on take off at times, very loud.

I played God of War on a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system and STILL all I could hear was that ****ing fan on the Pro.

Two things can be true simultaneously:

A lot of people expecting a game-changing, mind-melting upgrade are ignoring the more incremental updates we're going to continue seeing when it comes to new gaming hardware. Simply because graphic technology has reached such an incredible level of fidelity.

The PS5 (and XBSX) are nonetheless pretty major quality-of-life upgrades - the SSDs and more indulgent tech in the boxes mean it's a more substantial update in terms of raw performance, speed and even basic hardware design (e.g. the fan) than we saw with the PS3 -> PS4. Even if the graphics were already pretty incredible, more and more developers being able to target much higher frame rates has IMO made the upgrade more than worthwhile already.

I think the launch was piss poor, nothing to do with stock which did not help but the lack of games is unforgivable.

The unit itself is good apart from the issues I had (unit got replaced after 3 days) but as was said the load times and the controller is a huge plus. Just wish there were 2-3 very good games at launch to get stuck into, Valhalla was very mediocre and Godfall was a pure waste of space.

The 7 is the old version. You want the 7p or 7x.

To be honest I am not sure what the difference between the old and new version is though. The old one doesn't have a USBC adapter but not sure if anything else is different.

The 7's are more geared towards the PC. Personally i'd go with the 7X as you can use them on Xbox if you ever get one but still work for all other platforms too. Or just go with the Xbox version of the 1's which work on everything and are cheaper and nearly as good.

Wonda, can you name 3/4 launch titles from the PS3 & PS4 launches that made them better launches?

Yeah its not like there is a worldwide pandemic going on or something that would effect game development. UNFORGIVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t get criticisms of the PS5 launch at all. Demons Souls, Miles Morales, Sackboy and Astro is as solid a first party line up as we have seen in ages.

Astro was amazing and I had never experienced it before. The follow up will be an instant buy for me!

Hi just wondering what all of you are thinking of the ps5 so far?
Has it lived up to your expectations?

I upgraded from a launch day PS4 so its outshining that spectacularly. Few things I'd change software wise like how trophies are shown. The vertical list on the PS3 and PS4 is infinitely better than the horizontal way it is on the PS5. But overall the PS5 is great.

Not only that, if someone doesn't like it then just wait. The launch titles are hardly a secret, we knew what the options were before buying.

I didn't bother buying a PS4 last gen so I'm happy enough with the PS5 so far. I've a lot to catch up on in the PS Plus collection, Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Astro's Playroom is easily the best game I've played on it so far though.

Metacritic Scores for PS5 Launch Games
    Demon's Souls 92
    DMC5 88
    MM 85
    AC Valhalla 84
    Astro's Playroom 83
    Sackboy 79
    The Pathless 77
    Immortals Fenyx Rising 76
    COD 76
    Bugsnax 75

That's a serious amount of launch games in the top 25%/'Favourable' category - never mind the hundreds of games getting QOL upgrades like GOW, Days Gone etc. some of which were part of the Playstation Plus Collection.

The argument of bad launch games just doesn't hold any water. Sure there might be games not to someone's taste, but it was not an objectively bad launch game window.

And of course, some were cross-gen but if those games weren't made available on PS4, people would be screaming their heads off at being unable to access certain games given hardware shortages.

I consider it a bad launch window as there was no Knack III.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

The new Xbox's didn't actually get their own game until the medium a couple of weeks ago.

That's an actual bad launch lineup.

That is a criminal rating, not one person I know hasn't absolutely loved that game

"PlayStation Store to discontinue movie and TV show purchases, rentals" - Polygon

I never used this service myself. In fact, I don't think I know anyone who did!

I actually bought a few last year when I’d the PS4, they used to have some grand sales on it, think I picked up Blade Runner for €4 also got Batman v Superman for the same price. Disappointing to see this. Strange in this day and ages there’s no universal store for purchasing movies digitally.

I'm lending my PS4 to a mate because I have the PS5 now - can I just check the process so they can play my games? I log in on the ps4, make it my primary console, they set up their own account on the ps4, use that when playing and I continue to play as normal on my own account on the ps5, is that it? I've looked this up but still a bit confused. Thanks.

I have a question about transferring PS4 saves to PS5. I've seen a lot of people online having issues with transferring their saves and I'm just wondering why.Would it not be simpler (if possible) to go to the cloud storage and just download the latest save from there? That way if the save doesn't fully transfer or becomes corrupted you still have the backup.

Yes, that is simpler and has worked for me, but some games won't let it work that way if you want to play the PS5 updated version of the PS4 game. Borderlands requires (or at least did, I think it still does) to upload the save from your PS4 console in-game/from the game menu to their own server, and then download the save onto the PS5 from in-game/game menu.

Then, only about a third of PS accounts have an active PS+ sub, and cloud storage is only available on PS+.

For a good long while it wasn't available in Ireland, tbh I actually don't remember when it did become available so the news they were discontinuing it came as a bit of a surprise.

Sure the PlayStation movie and tv store, never even added 4k and hdr, so I can't say I am surprised really.

Sorry if I’m not allowed post this here, I have checked the charter, so please delete if forbidden.

I bought a digital ps5 on 6th Feb from smyths. I don’t want it anymore, have barely played it and am looking to sell it at face value but the usual sites don’t allow sales of them even at face value, which is a bit odd. I am based in sligo, so needed to get somebody close to home given the current restrictions!

Is there another online place, maybe a specialist site I can put it up? Have been warned to steer clear of Facebook market from my sister. I don’t use Facebook anyway.

Adverts won't let you sell it at face? That's a bit weird.

No, I had it up and got email to say it has been deleted. Cost me a fiver and all. Can’t understand why you can sell a PS4 for more than it’s worth but not a PS5 for even less than I spent on it considering I’ve to forfeit the money I spent on Spider-Man and Dirt !!

*In fairness when I look there now at the email they sent me, it’s clear as day ps5’s and the new Xbox are banned, so entirely my fault for not reading first.
