Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And the virus just magically stops spreading when it reaches the young and healthy GAA players? None of them give it to their parents or grandparents who then get sick and die?

No I don't think it magically stops spreading but a gaa player isn't going to be in contact with dozens of people in their eighties the way a care home worker will.

So these GAA players didn't spread it to anybody else in their community?

Did those GAA shenanigans result in any deaths? Because the nursing home debacle verifiably did

Do you think there's a good chance a GAA player would be in contact with a care home worker?

But what if the GAA player's mother works in a home?

Oh ffs. You really think that the care home cases were down to people catching it from GAA playing relatives rather than people moving from hospital to homes without being tested like what happened in Spain and Italy? Give me a break.

I don't think you understand how the virus spreads

Hang on now while I pull the care worker related to gaa player statistics out my arse.

So the people moving from hospitals to homes......

Where did they pick up the virus?

I don't think you understand that people were sent from hospital to homes without being tested. It happened in Spain and Italy and it happened here. That's how it killed so many people in care homes. Not some yarn you and others are spinning about the gaa that you can't back up.

Its common knowledge here in Cavan after the final of the club championship the celebrating team and supporters were not abiding by the rules in place even pictures of them drinking out of the cup. People in that community working in Cavan General Hospital were the main reason of last big outbreak in Cavan General.

Surely this increase was expected? They should be saying that they knew this would happen and they have a plan for it.
But no... it's shock horror time and we "need" to all accept that there may well be another poxy lockdown as they have no plan but this.

Every time there’s any slight increase in “figures” they slam on the panic button and ring up their buddies in rte. A well worn pattern since March

No apparently now every gaa player is related to someone who works in a care home and that's how it got into the homes. Allinall and tork have absolutely nothing to back that up with but it definitely happened

Any newspaper articles or anything to back that up with or should we trust 'common knowledge'

Yep and it’ll continue to spread so long as humans with a respiratory system walk this planet- it’s time you people accepted this as a natural part of life on planet earth - stupid made up rules will never change that

Well it was in the Anglo Celt newspaper.

    https://www.thejournal.ie/gaa-games-finals-covid-19-rates-5281842-Nov2020/
AA GAMES IN several local areas coincided with a increase in the growth of Covid-19 cases in those localities, according to advice given to the government ahead of its decision to return to a modified Level Three.

Several local electorate areas (LEAs) that hosted games or finals saw a jump in the growth rate of Covid-19 cases, with some recording the highest incidence rate within their county around the time of games.

I have never denied that the virus was also spread in nursing homes etc. But it was not the ONLY WAY the virus has been spreading. If you google the GAA and Coronavirus you will find lots of articles about how club celebrations were connected to outbreaks. Now we're hearing about funerals. I don't doubt that one either, going by what I have seen with my own eyes.

What in your mind is more likely, people with covid who were moved from hospital to care homes then spread it there resulting in the majority of our near 2,000 deaths or is it a result of a gaa players mammy working in a home and catching it off him.

What does this have to do with care homes?

It is to do with GAA matches and the spreading of the virus.

But if you want to labour under the illusion that the virus is clever and doesn't move past GAA players and onto their families and members of the community, go right ahead.

    The "people with covid"....

Where do you think they picked it up?

Or it'll spread at a greater rate because humans do stupid things like socialise and break the rules. If we had all done what had been asked of us months ago, we wouldn't be facing into the Christmas and New Year that we are. I'm as pissed off about that as everybody else is.

Where do you think they picked it up? It's a highly contagious respiratory illness. It's not a sin or a stigma to catch it.

You do realize that there isn't a way to stop this ? It's so highly contagious and symptoms can be low and non-existent in so many people that it'll always spread. Also I'm not sure if socializing is stupid. Most normal people enjoy it.

So how come the rates went down when we were in lockdown?

Because the entire country was brought to a standstill bar the bare essentials. There was no opportunity for it to spread.

Lockdown forever and see nobody is the only way to stop this virus. Who wants to do that? The vaccine isn't even go to change much as far as I can see. At some stage we have to get on with it.
