Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't think you understand that people were sent from hospital to homes without being tested. It happened in Spain and Italy and it happened here. That's how it killed so many people in care homes. Not some yarn you and others are spinning about the gaa that you can't back up.

It happened in pretty much every country in the world.

Lockdown forever and see nobody is the only way to stop this virus. Who wants to do that? The vaccine isn't even go to change much as far as I can see. At some stage we have to get on with it.

I think you’re the only one still in denial about the vaccine. I admire your determination. I think admire is the right word anyway

No, but it means we’re very unlikely to see anyone face any consequences for it.

Well I hope that isn't the case because it's disgusting what was let happen both here and in other countries.

I have never denied that the virus was also spread in nursing homes etc. But it was not the ONLY WAY the virus has been spreading. If you google the GAA and Coronavirus you will find lots of articles about how club celebrations were connected to outbreaks. Now we're hearing about funerals. I don't doubt that one either, going by what I have seen with my own eyes.

Young fit chaps in the prime of health- did they even get the sniffles?

Some of them probably did but we they infect is the problem. If you read the article it’s actually interesting.

The manufactures themselves don't even know how effective it is. The government tell us we will still have restrictions. Am I wrong or has some new information come out?

You remind me of Micheal Martin yesterday. We didn't Bail out the Banks. In denial for you own self interest.

We know young people are not effected in the same way has older generation but young people without symptoms can be carriers and spread the virus to our vulnerable population. Your comment is pure selflessness like others on here no care for your fellow neighbor. But you are like many in our society today.

Especially those of a certain older generation who are happy to protect themselves at the expense of the younger generation. See the bailout as an example reflected in the USC which is still not abolished as well as the ongoing affordable housing crisis. Their hysteria over covid is unsurprising unfortunately.

I don't get why Tony is "concerned" with the numbers now - they are at the same level as during the level 5 lockdown.
Does he expect no fluctuation ever in cases?

He is like a broken record - surely it has been accepted by NPHET at this stage there will be easing of restrictions over Xmas and rise of cases.
The way he is speaking as if the situation is still being "monitored" by him and his cohorts.

It feels like a copy and paste job for months about "concern" and rising cases on RTE's website.

Aye..the BS that some clueless people post about the vaccines with no evidence or back up of their claims get tiring.

Because NPHET don't just look at the numbers, they look at trends.

At the moment they are trending upwards.

What would you like NPHET to report if not the facts?

The vaccine roll out will be postponed watch due to 'the rise in cases and the possible strain on the hospitals'

Link? MM has said normality after the summer. Which government are you talking about? Manufacturers have said 94/95 effective through their trials.

They shouldn't be 'reporting' anything. They should be advising Government directly and in private instead of whoreing themselves all over the media with their relentless fear-mongering and finger-wagging.

Then we would have all the usual suspects on here roaring and demanding to know who the secret people who are in the government's ear are.

WE NEED TO KNOW WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE.

WHY DON'T THEY COME OUT AND SAY WHAT THEIR ADVICE IS?

    WHY THE SECRECY?

    WE NEED MORE TRANSPARENCY.

Sure if you are afraid, why do you constantly watch / read it and complain about it?

    Seems like an easy fix.

Or it'll spread at a greater rate because humans do stupid things like socialise and break the rules. If we had all done what had been asked of us months ago, we wouldn't be facing into the Christmas and New Year that we are. I'm as pissed off about that as everybody else is.

Of all the utter stupidity I've read on this thread and others like it the emboldened above takes the prize!

Why are some of you incapable of realising that humans are SOCIAL ANIMALS. That it's unnatural to expect people not to do a "stupid thing like socialise." Now before my words get twisted, I have no problem with reasonable restrictions like socialise less, avoid crowds, wash hands, keep distance, wear masks. But I think some of you are crimson with rage that young people won't live like monks for months on end. Do ye really think that is a plausible and reasonable ask?? And if ye expect people to obey draconian restrictions for months on end and to behave like robots who mindlessly obey every rule ye really are pissing against the wind. Because humans beings aren't wired like that.

As another poster sensibly said, as long as humans with respiratory systems are walking around this planet the virus will spread. Nothing you can do about that except your own reasonable bit. And maybe give the sanctimonious finger wagging a rest, even for xmas? Peace and goodwill to your fellow human beings and all that maybe???

The family and extended family have been living with the illness for the best part of a decade, I imagine they are suitably more qualified to be making decisions on what they should or shouldn't be doing.

Also compassionate leave isn't even a requirement let alone infinite, you have no idea what his professional obligations are or were.

Pretty low to be using the unfortunate circumstance the family are in to score points against him.

    Poor form.

I am speaking as parent who lost a young child to cancer. I gave up my job at that stage. My place was with the person I loved, it wasn't even something |I had to consider. So I wasn't being "pretty low" when making my comment, I was making it from experience.
I was not on a big salary at that time, I had no protection of a well paid job to go back to after the long road of cancer in a child, unlike Tony Holohan who more than likely has. Maybe his way of coping is through work, but you would have to wonder if that's the best thing for this country, dealing with lockdown after lockdown, even when numbers weren't bad.
My original point was that there is an element of ego with Tony Holohan. I stand by that. Nobody put a gun to his head to be at the helm of NPHET right now particularly due to his circumstances.

Are people angry with Tony because he is:

    Consistent
    Transparent
    Honest
    Assertive
    Incorruptible

Would we prefer a CMO that would bend to our will?

Which part of this article highlights corruption by the CMO?

I see that he is risk averse in the extreme, him and the WHO and various epidemiologist, I haven't seen the corruption yet.

Aplogies Corruption is not the right word - gross negligence would be more appropriate.

Well to be fair it's impossible to avoid it. It's headline news on the tv, radio and papers every evening, it's not some niche subject. To avoid it you'd want to deafen and blind yourself, which is tempting some days.
