So the Taoiseach should announce then that the country is lockdown until at least the end of April?

Why do you think he doesn’t announce it?

Because I think that that is just the general assumption now. Certainly is among everyone that I know, socially and professionally

We don’t want one person to die with Covid.

    That's a given, no?

But will we be happy to pull the ladder up on those thousands of people suffering?

    Relax.

The economy will be opened gradually based on lots of things, but I imagine it will follow vaccinations as one of it's main metrics.

    To quote Ireland's newest millionaire.

'The cavalry is on the way.'

There is a huge coiled spring board to restart the economy just waiting to be unleashed. It's not like 2008.

If we can get to Easter with slightly eased restrictions, schools open etc and a chunk of people vaccinated the country needs to open back up.

I lost of my job in May, and was incredibly lucky to get a new job through a contact a few days later. The company I worked for had 100 people last January, down to 30 now.

For a lot of people I know Jan has been awful, the start of December there was some hope but companies seen that H1 was still going to be tough.

Internationally Dropbox laid of 11% of its workforce, that company should be thriving with everyone working remotely. Jobs will be shed at increasing rates, Ireland is in for a grim 2021 economically.

Mask wearing is a pain in the hole as is social distancing. What sort of person doesent get this seriously?

If you are talking about foreign holidays the airlines will not be anywhere near getting back to normal flights this summer or this autumn either.

Flights are still coming and going from Dublin Airport every day. So people are going to want to travel. I'm booked for 2 weeks in NY in June and I'm going. If the clowns in Govt and media can tell us to stay home and still take off on vacations than so can the rest of us.

Social distancing is a problem if u are trying to form relationships.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭Penfailed

And you know all this for a fact do you? Can I have a loan of your crystal ball? The truth is that no one including you has any idea what will be happening beyond this summer anyway. Anything else is just speculation despite you presenting your opinions as facts.

After the Spanish Flu we had the Roaring Twenties. It could be the same. Who knows.

I am happy enough not to go abroad again this year but if they f*ck around the hospitality industry again this summer, I’m going.

Not a big deal if you're old and not too interested. If you're 25 and you didnt get laid in over a year not so much.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭Penfailed

Read on RTÉ today that government met with hospitality representatives yesterday and gave them the impression that hospitality certainly wouldn’t open before Easter.

Make of that what you will. So much for the economy bouncing right back in 2021 has many have stated.

Those that stated that didn't think this thing would still be going this year. I certainly didn't think, back in March and April, that this would still be as big a deal as it is.

Exactly. No one knows. Anyone that claims they do are just spoofers. A lot of hysterical off the wall claims going on here.

Aren't estas suspended at the moment, so unless that's rescinded you're going nowhere.

If I owned a Hotel here I wouldn't be in any hurry to re open. They've been treated like play things by the Government. This is why I can't see the economy rebounding as quickly as another poster here previously claimed. No confidence in the Govt any more.

My trip to NY in June is part personal and part business. I want to see my friends because their Father passed away over the Summer. And I want to assess the job situation [and job training as well] over there.

Exactly , I’m say a lot of these people who say social distancing is no big deal are either coupled up themselves or happy being single. It’s about being also who are looking for a relationship.

I asked this in main thread with little response. Just curious to know what is people’s take on children mingling outside in the current status. What about playing in a neighbours back garden v being out the front?

I would of interpreted it that they do not want them playing together but this effectively means people having to lockup kids. Once a child is not in a person line of sight you can’t expect them to follow such rigid guidelines (ignore your friends etc). So I am just wondering how are parents managing this?

You know what I mean. Interpersonal relationships. Sex even. When you're older and settled or both meeting new people - not from a distance - isn't a big deal for a while. Not if you're single.

Look I'm not implying anything. Just saying the young wont stay put when numbers drop and we're dragging the arse out of this. And not just the young.

    Kids should be kids.

It would be much more detrimental to their development to stay locked in the house or trying to socialise from 2m apart.

And our kids should be prioritised over our health.

I meant social distancing in workplaces, shops, restaurants and pubs. If I was trying to get laid, I wouldn't let a pandemic get in the way...

People can travel without estas. Citizens, residents and those with visas. Essential travel is also allowed. Even if the flights are mostly empty they won't stop them because they might lose the slot.

    Depending on your own circumstance.

    Risk V Reward.

    Personally I'd give it a week a 2.

I would have no issues whatsoever if they don’t live with elderly/sick people.

Important that kids realise this is relatively harmless to them

An interestingly diverse attitude. Suppose it’s up to each individual or family to decide what they feel is best.

The biggest risk to the kids is falling and hurting themselves.

Depending on your own circumstances, age, weight and underlying issues the risk will vary accordingly.

Good on them. Similar goings on in Poland and Switzerland. People can only take so much.

    Was about to post that.

They are already sick of it and they weren’t nearly as suppressed as Ireland

People die every day of lots of different things.

The risk of Covid killing you at that age is incredibly small, almost such a small risk that if you were worried about it a quick lesson in risk analysis of daily activities would cause one to never leave the house
