Huge development (that you won't hear in Ireland)

Portuguese appeals court finds PCR tests unreliable and lifts quarantine

The PCR test “is unable to determine, beyond reasonable doubt, that such positivity result corresponds, in fact, to the infection of a person by the SARS-CoV-2 virus”, said the Lisbon Court of Appeal.

The Lisbon Court of Appeal also considered that the quarantine period imposed by the Directorate-General for Health during the state of alert is illegal. The judgment states that the body of judges ruled that such a situation can only be taken in a state of emergency (currently in force).

Just so you know, when a CT above a certain threshold, defined by supplier of the test assay, is required to detect the virus, it is declared inconclusive and retested. And it is not the case that there is no virus present if a high ct is required, just that there is insufficient to suggest an active infection. The overwhelming majority of test don’t reach these thresholds

Buff Egan has a video up of the Tipperary team passing through Ballyporeen in cars, 4 or 5 young lads, they look early 20s, run over to one of the cars and hug one of the lads out the window.

Buff refers to it as despicable behaviour before commenting “Up Tipp won’t help them on a ventilator”

A lot of damage needs to be repaired, hysteria is infectious

Well he is a clown to be fair it doesn’t surprise me.

Why are people like Buff Egan attacking a bunch of young lads celebrating after a match? how pathetic has this country become. Get over it and move on.

I'm sick to death of these people taking the "moral" virtue signalling high ground so they will look good on social media. Imagine taking videos of a group of young people and posting it online for attention seeking purposes.

But...but...they will kill granny! - people are sick of this blackmailing nonsense, which is full of lies.

Buff Egan oh ffs.i’ve seen that clown around enough matches in past few yrs to know what he is.

Defined by the supplier. CT threshold determined months ago and by suppliers that have a vested interest in as many tests supplied as possible.

This is what happens when you vote for the green party. You get what you pay for.

The ridiculous thing is that it was all predictable after their last stint in office when they were propping up an unstable and unpopular Government then too.

The only thing the "Green" party here are interested in is pie-in-the-sky nonsense that doesn't translate into the real world but for which they'll tax everyone anyway, ultimately doing more damage by the time they're ejected (eg: 2-tier motor tax system that devalued everyone's 07 or older car overnight, only to be a complete balls-up - environmentally and from a revenue standpoint - by the entirely predictable shift to cheap tax diesels)

The "Greens" are an urban wealthy holier-than-thou bunch who very few actually voted for when you look at the numbers, yet they've been given key ministries and positions that will again allow them to inflict as much damage as possible before they're kicked out again.

If you can't even put up with the mildest of emergencies like covid, constantly whining about restrictions, how on earth are you going to cope with something bigger? The lack of self awareness here is absolutely staggering.

Your right. Covid is mild. It’s our reaction and hysteria too it that has caused the emergency.

The Virus has been around 8 months and i doubt that clown knows a single person who has been on a ventilator due to Covid yet that's the first thing that springs to his mind to say.

Seems to be more of a cases in the area based decision.
Florida does seem to be an outlier, not sure it that's a climate based call or just more Liberal law makers..

Florida lifted all restrictions months ago now and the governor has outright stated that he will never reinstate lockdowns. They dont seem to be doing as bad as was predicted even though there's been many "two week" intervals to await the apocalypse since they've been reopened. It's barely mentioned in the news now.

Florida's average death rate over the past 8 weeks is over 65 per day.

A very poor record. Not surprising given the irresponsible behaviour of DeSantis.

Lot of people wanted Florida to fail due to how close DeSantiis is to Trump thus constant tales of doom regarding that state. He's not exactly aced it, but he's clearly more competent than the abomination that won't leave the white house which is obviously a very good thing for Florida. :)

There has been 18,000 deaths in Florida so far, rising by between 65 and 100 per day. A dreadful record of incompetence and stupidity.

He's been very cavalier recently, but we live in an era where Andrew ****ing Cuomo presides over a state with 33000 dead has released a book about how well he handled the virus while having the banter with his brother on tv without a care in the world.

The standards are very low when it comes to how high profile governors have fared regarding covid.

Thankfully they are much more competent governors who have done good work while not getting the love as those two which has somewhat mitigated the damage done in America.

Similar numbers to California, which has been under restrictions since March

Do they? Just in the last week or two he was caught breaking his own rules by attending a large dinner party at a restaurant, and he wasn't wearing a mask at all, let alone in between bites of food which is what he mandated. He sends his kids to in person private school while public school children are suffering from being out of school since March. He's kept his own winery open this whole time while bars and restaurants are going out of business left right and center. So I don't blame people there for not following the "rules". Even law enforcement in several counties have said they won't be enforcing his latest curfew and attempts to stop people having Thanksgiving dinners.

    Well said. Excellent informative post.

"Rules for thee, not for me" really is how it works here.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/11/20/yet-another-politician-breaks-their-own-covid-19-restrictions-why-does-this-keep-happening/

    https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2020/10/30/newsom-sends-his-children-back-to-school-classrooms-in-california-1332811

    https://kmph.com/news/local/central-valley-wineries-ordered-to-close-but-governors-winery-remains-open

Regardless of what "side" a politician is on, this really is unacceptable. The governor of the state I live in currently has coronavirus diagnosed about a week after an alleged large Halloween party at his home. All this while he was discouraging trick or treating and parties. Like I said, rules for thee, not for me.

    California has twice the population.

If lockdowns and restrictions work, why have they had over 18000 deaths? And why are their cases and deaths now increasing rapidly again despite being locked down since march?

The mitigation is not about stopping rises in cases, it's about limiting the rise.

Floridas cases are rising at a lower rate than California, despite not many restrictions in place, for months now. Hospitals are still doing ok.

Indo headline reporting restaurants to open permanently but wet pubs to stay closed.

Behind a paywall so haven’t read the full article.

Good news for some of hospitality at least - even if they will most likely be heavily restricted to begin with - at least they won’t be operating under threat of reclosure. Death knell for wet pubs though if true.

As it's the Indo we can take it as coming straight from the governments mouth. Absolutely scandalous decision if true and shows the agenda of NPHET in a clear light. As long as they are around they will push to have pubs remain closed permanently or until they can no longer reopen.

If the pubs serve food they be allowed to open. This means most pubs in Dublin can open if they want. Last time they allowed the pubs to open, majority that wanted to open did.

NPHET have decided to continue the closure of pubs ?
So they are literally green lighting house parties.
That’s fine , house parties it is then.

The complete and utter anti-logic these clowns are applying to their own “reduce the infection numbers” agenda is as baffling as it is hilarious.
