I think sometimes people just need a good old rant.
No harm. No need for everyone to jump on the reasons. A lot of people are stressed out, we don't need to agree on the why, but just accept and understand that we (everyone) are.

(And to those responding and complaining about going off topic - better to post something on topic than take it further down a tangent?).

Yes everyone needs a good rant but when that rant includes phrases like "global dictatorship" and civil/human rights being an illusion and other things that are associated with conspiracy theories it translates to nonsense in my opinion.

Back on topic..I'm doing as well as I can but feeling very fed up like most people at this stage. I returned to Ireland having been abroad for over a decade to return to education and get a feel for living back in Ireland to decide if it was where I wanted to live. The reason for wanting to study in Ireland was to study fulltime and to avoid studying part time or online like I would have had to if I stayed where I was.
As it turns out neither part of the plan worked out so far. My studies are 100% online and I have no idea if I want to stay in Ireland because I can't get a true feel for what life will be like in Ireland.

Instead of focusing on what is a tricky situation right now, I'd be focusing on the future and any plans you may have. Anger at the situation at hand is mostly pointless.

The next 6 months may be something of a write off but it is what it is. The situation affecting all the the world right now isn't going to last forever because history tells us it simply can not. We are hardly isolated in all of this.

It's a long life folks, the world isn't ending any time soon(and be thankful it is not worse), face the present challenges head on because it will make the better times coming back reasonably soon all the more sweeter.

Mandatory vaccination for taking a Qantas flight.

My point is we will still have this in a few years when the situation (one would imagine) will be a lot more stable - why ?

That's a long the same lines as Australia's policy for yellow fever. Passengers returning from a yellow fever risk country must show proof of vaccine upon landing in Australia

    https://www1.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/ohp-bio-yellow-fever.htm#:~:text=Vaccination%20is%20recommended%20at%20least,to%20Australian%20Border%20Force%20Officers.

I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make.

I'm doing well, busy with work and hobbies. I miss a lot of things that is a no-no now. But I will get over it.What a very heart-warming thread, and it is shameful certain posters derail it. OP ,I hope you are well and happy.

I hope that now that that rant is out of the way, everyone is feeling okay.

It is a testing time, lets not let things boil over here too.

I have not been off-island for two years; my immune system is down. I don't count the chopper excursion to hospital although that glimpse of the covid world was enough... deeply shocking. While I keep a mask by the door it is never needed, and supplies are left outside the big gate well away from the door.

Yesterday I said to someone on the phone that I would love a day out. " Oh no you wouldn't," she assured me.

And I realise how different it is out there now, and feel for you. It does impact life here as there are people I know and love caught up in it - and we have suffered losses to covid.

And there is that deep awareness that all is not right.

But there are not the day to day rules etc. In essence my daily life has hardly changed physically. .

And all we can all do is adapt until things change. Enjoy what we can; hope for the future. As so many here are doing. And that is the wise and mature way forwards. There is still love and laughter and beauty in the world.
