    That’s an awful suggestion, Nitwit.

I won’t kill Ecto no matter how hard you hint at it.

    EN loves me really.

Slow and steady wins the race. That is my tactic obviously.

Delighted with my brain for subconsciously taking in the 1850's during my skim read of twitter.

Ah crap, I keep collating comments during the day, then forgetting to stick them up in the evening!

Hmm... were Christmas cards sent before stamps were invented? I'd say not. Penny black was first released in 1840 so I'd guess Christmas cards came not long after that...

200AD. No, I'm just joking. Random stab in the dark, I'll say...

No idea, as usual, but for some reason I have it in my head that all the commercialisation of Christmas came post World War II and maybe that all started with this prick designing a card with the message Happy Christmas, The War Is Over which later served as inspiration to John Lennon, and I'm probably not even in the right century, but feck it...

I am guessing that it probably has something to do with wartime so I will guess...

...on the flimsy theory that it was a way to cheer everyone up after WW1

I could be waaay off and it will probably turn out that John Calcott Horsley was actually a cave person or a dinosaur.

This was a question on a quiz last week - but it was the decade, not the year. So I am going to go smack bang right in the middle of the decade (I hope I am remembering it correctly, because I know I got the quiz question wrong).

Ooooh ye olde Christmas card reminds me of Dickensian era.

I don't know the answer, so what will all the boardies think?? Doubt many even know numbers before 1800 lol

    I believe it was a Tuesday :D

I'm going to pluck a random number out of thin air and probably be out by a really long number.

So despite me seeing the actual answer about 5 minutes ago I'm still not confident. Gonna go early though cos the card looked well ****e. Will everyone else agree? Probably not.

So I actually know this one but how will everyone else vote. This could go very wrong. EEEEK!!!!

Ah, Christmas cards. My one true Scrooge moment. Waste of trees and money.

That was my hook too. Don't know much about Christmas cards but I had a couple of talks over the years about the development of postal services. They all seemed pretty dry at the time, but I do remember some wag saying why the effing F do we have to know all this. I'd have agreed until this day.

Yeah that was what my thinking/logic was when I was sending my panicked last minute answer in. If he invented the Christmas Card, surely he'd be posting them, when did "post" and "Stamps" become a thing. Realised I had no idea of that one either and threw done a late 1800's answer.

At least I'm consistent in knowing I'm gonna be way off.

If someone hadn't mentioned that it was up for auction I probably would have said early 1800s, wasn't too far off in the end

Good morning elves, welcome to day 7 of the Forum Games Sheepish Advent Calendar!
    1ttt.gif

Bit late, I dropped the car in to the garage this morning and have just walked home, it is brass monkeys out there!

Not that that's relevant at all. Last year we established that Bono was the best known singer on this...

...but... Q7: How many artists sang on the original (1984) version of Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid?

As always, PM me your answer before 7pm
I'll reveal everyone's answers and scores around 8:00-8:30pm

Is this one of those days when it would be better to get a note from your Ma to help with Christmas things and just accept the zero rather than risk a really bad negative score?

    STOP THE COUNT

Do groups count as one artist or are all the individual members counted separately?

I probably should have asked this before I've already submitted my answer. :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,604 ✭✭✭Mollyb60

Ok so it's just come on my christmas playlist. But I was a good elf and submitted my answer before now. And I think my answer was way off. Shoite.
