    I took the word artist in the question to mean individuals not groups, as solo singers, groups and parts of groups took part. Now I wonder.

    So I took it to be how many different people sang... and my scientific method to getting to my answer was submitting the first number that popped into my head.

    I was busy clawing my way back up the leaderboard from my crash and burn, verrrrry slowwwwly, and now my hazy memory of a video from 35 years ago has let me down very badly.

    After a near escape by re reading the question, I'm confused , is it total singers or just the ones who sang the verses?
    (I first thought it was Live Aid and hadn't enough fingers and toes to count on :o)
