Size doesn't matter. It's the motion in the ocean that counts.

    All in :)
Austria is home to the world's tallest snowman, after entering the Guinness World Records on Saturday.

The snowman, nicknamed "Riesi," which roughly translates as "giant" in English, measures a gigantic 38.04 meters, Austrian press agency APA reported.

Riesi was built in Donnersbachwald, in the central Austrian ski-region of Riesneralm. He was the brainchild of 52-year-old caretaker Gerhard Peer together with ski-lift manager Erwin Petz, according to the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.

The pair originally intended for the snowman to be 40 meters tall, and used snow cannons to build up a hump of compact snow 30 meters wide in a process that took 40 days.

But what will your median be...?

It'll be 8:30pm before I'm ready with that now, sorry!

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,920 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

I'll be a snowman for noman

Humm how tall is tall before it becomes a hazard to aviation to people and surroundings. Tricky, tricky, tricky.

My littlest elf is a big guinness book of records fan... If he's wrong....

Uh oh. I don't know this one :(
Gonna go with something that seems relatively ridiculous yet also achievable.

We're walking in the air...la de da de dee

Another one that I don't have an effing clue, so I will strategically strategize to get the median.

This is either going to be an inspired answer or another disaster. What are the chances of me crawling back into the Top 30 (never mind the Top 20) by the end? :( I think I need a few spectacular disasters from other contestants.

I haven't a clue. But surely it couldnt be THAT big

Why did I torture myself so much by entering this? :D

I reckon it would be easy enough to build a snowman higher than a house, some snowdrifts are higher than a house. Two houses? Three houses? Don't know if you could go much higher than that

That Giant snow lady will crush us all :( It's got to be pretty tall to be the tallest snowman in the world. But does structural integrity come in to it? It's not like you can put a bit of rebar and concrete onto it. The width of an American Football pitch is 160 feet, that would make a pretty decent size snowman

Would like to think my job would help me with this, but nah, we build nothing with snow unfortunately... Still, given the make up & natural characteristics of snow it would need to be built up with a huge base as its not gonna stack much more than a 45 degree slope or risk collapse... I reckon its likely to be under 50 metres as its own weight would cause it to collapse, unless it looks like the pyramids of Giza!! I reckon its probably between 36 & 40m myself, but what will the bloody neighbours do on me today, after all knowing the answer isnt worth a jot with these bunch of cotton headed ninny muggins... tempted to round it up to compensate for the median... no chance of winning at this stage (realism is a terrible debilitating affliction) so will plump for that so, even though I reckon theres not a chance its that big

What's next. How many Brussels Sprout do we munch our way through? If you ask that question, there will have to be a "How many snowballs will be thrown at Electric Nitwit at the end of this game?"

So, assuming mechanical help with the building.........

Ok so I am resigned to not winning now but don't want to skip any further so will try to apply logic here. I am starting with the Christmas Tree which was 67m. I doubt the snowball would be as high. Maybe half the size?

I reviewed the guesses to the tallest Christmas tree question and factored in those who will remember they went too high or low there, the fact we're talking about a man-made snow object now, something considerably difficult to build, instead of a naturally growing tree, which would lower the median (which was 50), factored in that most forum gamers are ignoramus ninnies who are probably half-drunk on eggnog, and then after weighing all the permutations decided to go for the number Jesus was when he died in the spirit of Christmas because I'm too far behind to win a medal anyways darnit!

I did a Christmas last man standing quiz at the weekend and this was one of my questions along with nearly all the ones you've put up so far

Ah god EN , I'm old , I don't understand metres at all

Well it ****ed me over yesterday so I'll give it a second chance

I have no idea. I was like MILES out on the Christmas tree one so I’m going big. Or my idea of big. Maybe that’s too small? Oh heck I haven’t a clue

I dunno why I’m calling these lot the loonies when it’s me at the bottom of the table!

That tallest tree was 67 metres, right? Surely the tallest snowman can't be that tall...unless they cheated and used cranes to build it or something? If they used machines then my guess is going to be pathetically small but it will be more in the spirit of Christmas, prioritisinjg human endeavour over than some 100-metre tall yoke built with machinery and LIES.

Oh yes of course I have this info tucked away just for this.

I fear Ted is finally going to overtake me.
