Threaded kitchen mixer tap?

Is there such a thing? Had a look on a few sites but don't see one.

I want threaded to attach a garden hose. Tried a Hozelock adapter which failed miserably.

Instead of trying different connectors till one works or none works I thought I'd look for a threaded tap.

Trying some lateral thinking here :rolleyes: Any chance that you can connect instead to a washing machine/dishwasher tap somewhere under the sink? I know a lot of houses are plumbed for both but often only use one of them.

Either that or put in a proper outside tap its not that difficult if you can drill through a wall.

There are plenty of threaded taps you can get but none of them are going to look any good as a replacement for a kitchen mixer tap. If you are going to that length you could just tap off the current pipe work and add another tap.

I'll look at getting an outdoor tap if a threaded indooor tap isn't a done thing.

You want the threads on the output end I assume ?

You can certainly get them, but it mightnt be recommended to fit one to a mixer tap, could cause issues.

What kind of issues? I wan't to power wash with it.

The issues with mixer taps are that its difficult to get a connection to them from a hose and aesthetically they are going to look crap with a screw thread on the end.

No reason you can't go under the sink and put in a tap that can be used with your hose you will get a bit of spillage every time you use it but a bowl under it or a towel will sort that out.

Another option if you know where it runs is to dig up your mains water before it gets into the house put on a T piece a length of pipe and a tap on the end of that. Best put a valve just after the T piece so you can turn the pipe off in the ground if it freezes.

Pretty sure there’s a brass fitting you can get that replaces the filter yoke on the end of the tap.

Not a plumber, but I’d have thought it might cause issues with your hot water system if there was a link between the hot and cold, say the mixer was accidentally set a little to hot. You could send cold water up the wrong way if the pressure is higher on the cold.


Tbh the only way I’d run a power washer off the kitchen sink was if it was running to a water butt outside, and the power washer was taking its water from the butt.

You can buy adapters as you describe, that replaces the filter. See below. However , I think, they will restrict the flow so the water pressure would not be sufficient to supply a power washer. I would advise Op , that you get an outside tap any other option will be a fudge.

We got the Hozelock version here to get us sorted quickly for a job we needed to do - https://www.screwfix.ie/p/hozelock-mixer-tap-connector/3485T?gclsrc=ds

It's not perfect and it's not really a permanent solution, but it got us sorted while we don't have an outside tap fitted.

If that doesn't do the job it's definitely an outdoor tap.

Doesn't have an aerator. It must be the worst design for what I want to do. A rounded rectange shape with a bar across the middle.

If the problem is the hose connector keeps blowing off the tap then you really need to do something different.

Get a barrel, I use a recycled blue plastic 220l barrel with the top cut off. It had a previous life holding something used to clean out milking parlors.

I put a fitting on the bottom with a tap and a hose connector which I connect to the pressure washer.

I then put the open ended hose from the mains tap into the barrel and fill it up. Once full nearly full I turn the mains tap down a good bit and start pressure washing with water from the barrel. If you get the fill rate from the mains tap right you don't need to stop and mess with it.

Reason I do that is mains pressure is to high and just blows off the hose fittings after about 20 seconds if I stop pressure washing.

Oh that's a bummer. Friend got one and said it worked great but suppose it depends on the tap, water pressure, etc.

Maybe time to just go for the outdoor tap. You can get a self tapping kit that's really easy to do yourself, just need access to a decent drill to get the hole in the wall.
