He did say that was a conservative estimate and that based on manufacturing the timeline could be excelerated.

I'm pretty optimistic about that myself, once more vaccines are approved in Europe (and elsewhere), there's no reason why vaccine manufacturing wouldn't be ramped up a lot - the entire world wants vaccines, so everything possible will be done to produce as much as possible.

Also, to the people who think the HSE will screw this up - the hard part is getting enough vaccines to Ireland. After that it's not super complicated to vaccinate people, even the HSE will be able to do that.

Pretty sorry photo opportunity really. I was expecting a couple of big trucks or something. Along come two small boxes I could have carried in myself without a forklift. The guy directing it is a cameraman, not some warehouse type dude. He is 'directing' a story for mass consumption. THE VACCINE IS HERE.

It goes right along with my expectations that the rollout is going to be dominated by spin and ineptitude.

Is it OK to be cynical on St. Stephen's Day?

They must have got the IKEA build your own vaccines. I was expecting a refrigerated convoy :D

This seems very optimistic. Hopefully its will prove to be accurate

Between an optimist and pessimist the difference is droll
The optimist see the doughnut and the pessimist sees the hole

I for one am thrilled to see the arrival of the vaccine and can now see over the top of the mountain and see the downward slope to a better summer

To be honest when this kicked off in Asia I thought it would be years before we’d have a vaccine. 2022 or 2023 at least so even if it takes until Autumn this year that’s a lot better than what I had mentally prepared myself for.

I'm really looking forward to a good old sun holiday ☺️

While it’s important to be cautious, it’s also important to observe that to date, the vaccination timeline since March has been continuously accelerating. Imagine saying in the middle of last summer that we’d have 3 vaccines approved by January and be well on our way out of this.

If we have ~2.5 million vaccinated by May (we’ll have 5 vaccines by then) including all those over the age of 55 and all those who are deemed to be at risk, can you see any justifications for anything other than very light restrictions?

While we just got a small delivery of the first vaccine, the deliveries are going to ramp up and quick. In a way, the fact that we’re in a hard lockdown (or potentially a harder one) will see us gradually escape back to normality as this gets filled out. Starting from such a bleak point every small step things will get brighter.

This will be over before we know it. The road to normality is no longer an ambition - we’re on that road now.

The specialist refrigeration requirements to store the vaccine at -70 must be inside the cardboard boxes

The frosty reception is keeping them cool.

From the indo, gave me a good laugh
George Lee’s pandemic career is lasting longer than his stint in politics

The disciple of doom is back a decade after he walked away from his short-lived political career because nobody was showing him love. Unlike the predictions of the economic crash, Lee gets to comment live on the disaster befalling the world this time out. Lee showed his first signs of closeness to the Nphet line when he started referring to the chief medical officer as “Tony” back in the spring. Since then he has dutifully scared the bejaysus out of the nation every night for the past nine months.

What's the makeup of the vaccine. What's in it, it's a clear liquid, so whats ingredients.

Normal would be travel to and from USA and vice versa, and every other country.

The ingredient list is freely available if you Google it.

    It's mostly salts and sugars.

It's diluted with saline before injection afaik.

I expect international travel will be roaring back to life by the summer. There'll be some additional restrictions a, such as a requirement to prove a negative test or vaccination, but there'll be a lot more travel happening.

I wonder what the prices will be like upon full return to travel. They'll probably be back to the days of remortgaging your house for a trip to Spain.

I assume they'll be pretty much the same as they were

Would think prices would be low at the start to help encourage travel again. Prices would get more expensive then over time.

I assume airlines and hotels will gouge the pent up demand all they can to make up for losses. They're not the St Vincent de Paul.

I doubt it. Maybe intra EU but I can't see non EU travelling increasing to normal levels
