    Leno
    Chambers, Holding, Mari, Xhaka
    Partey, Ceballos
    Pepe, Smith Rowe, Saka
    Nketiah

    Decent line up

No balogun on bench. Nketiak starting is a waste. We already know he's not good enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,147 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Balogun not even in the squad. Not confident with Eddie up from and even more worrying Ceballos in midfield.

Was really hoping to see a bit of Balogun tonight, maybe he's picked up a knock. Would be odd to not have him in the squad after signing a contract

It’s a bit of a dead rubber match, for Arsenal anyway.

Was it officially announced that he signed. ?

A win tonight puts us in a possible position for European qualification.

You're right actually, it wasn't. I was sure that I read it was to be announced yesterday

I heard they were relying on ESL money to pay for his contract, so he's off :D

Gives us an extra day before Villarreal. I'm a big fan of that.

This Everton team is there for the taking. Arsenal should go for the jugular.

Eddie is put through lovely with a ball to run onto. Gets to the ball first and he's through on goal, although with a CB close by.

Nope. Stops the ball dead and allows 4 defenders between him and the goal.

    Every. F*cking. Time

Without Auba and Laca we're very limited upfront. This game is made for Martinelli's pace and guile. Dare I say it Willian would be good to as he'd have plenty of room to play. We need Odegaard on asap.

This first half is going by far too quickly for my liking.

    Excellent save Leno!

What's all the talk about Balogun? Is he not an Arsenal player? Does a 2 week gap in "announcing" his new contract mean he can't play now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,619 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

This is like a pre-season friendly. No life to it at all.

This referee is bloody joke! Overweight baldy fusspot!

Gave us a few soft ones with his fussiness as well.

I'm failing to see much if anything good in Eddie.

Wikipedia has him at 1.8M but I wouldn't back him to win a header against my gran.
He's so slow. Shouldn't be as he lucks to start the run well, but just seems to get slower with every step taken.
Not particularly a fox in the box because he won't stay in there and does nothing to make himself available to those around him
Positionally he's suspect as he always seems to run toward the ball when he should run away, and vice versa. Doesn't seem to get into any good positions.
Shot wise he seems to be normal. Nothing overly powerful or accurate.

Apart from some goals for England kids (against other kids) what do people see in him.

Partey would want to be very careful now, he's on thin ice as it stands.

Consideration Everton has something to play for as well.

    Zzzzzz.

Two mid table teams trying against each other

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,619 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Toothless up front. Need Martinelli on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭wonga77

Very tame affair considering both still have a fair bit to play for. Ive been impressed with Xhaka since he's gone in at left back.
We need to see Martinelli introduced soon
Just to echo what Quazzie said above, cant see where Eddie fits in at all at the club, he's got plenty of chances and so far has shown he's clearly not even close to the level required. We know what we get with him, id much prefer to see Balogun thrown in and see what he's about

Christ this referee is infuriating me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,147 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Jon Moss is an inspiration. Looking at him makes me realize I could be a ref because I honestly think he's fatter than I am.

Maybe some day I could ref a game without going more than fifteen yards from the halfway line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,147 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

    And VAR screws us again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,208 ✭✭✭Irish Aris

    That's absolute BS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,103 ✭✭✭DenMan

    Fcuk it anyway!

Yet again absolute bollox of millimetres.
Between Fulham and this game VAR and SL, I’m really just losing interest in professional football

I’d rather a game down the park Sunday morning

Id like to see a replay of the foul again, was there even any contact?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭FixitFelix

Is it me or was the blue line for the Everton player behind the red line?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,822 ✭✭✭lertsnim

****ing ****e. An arm cant be offside.

I would absolutely encourage everybody to get their ref qualification and do a couple of matches even U-13. Would change the discourse massively.

The gas thing about that handball shout is that they talk about the hands/arms being in an unnatural position. Having your hands held behind your back while running is about as unnatural as it gets. :pac:

    It isn't referees fault.

    The rules are the rules.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,103 ✭✭✭DenMan

I hope we send Ceballos back permanently to Madrid this summer!

The problem is the application of of the rules. Goals make the game better. VAR should make the game better. As soon as there is a goal scored there is a CSI level investigation into how they can disallow the goal. It's a brilliant aid for the ref being used wrong. Instead of being there to help refs, it's being used to screw over attacking teams with their best efforts to keep games scoreless. The only way VAR can be used to create goals is to give penalties, and that's very rare. Instead it is almost exclusively used to disallow goals.

I agree with you. I am against those line drawing calls.

But you can't add common sense to the rules and we ended up with this rubbish.

I hate to say it, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

Aye the implementation has been awful. When the design of the jerseys forms part of the interpretation then ya know it's ****ed.
If they're going to insist on the lines then it has to be feet only.
