An ole shot on target would be great...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Dont get the Mari hype. Does well in the easy cup games but thats all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭Underground

How easy was that? A simple ball in between the left back and the centre back and we're carved open. We're not at the races at all tonight.

Hopefully we can stay in it, maybe nick a goal and bring a 2-1 loss into the second leg.

It's awful to even be saying that when we've less than half of the first leg played but we really do look sh*t tonight.

We have "creative" players on paper only. In reality they don't do much.

Yup. Only so long the likes of Smith Rowe can be justified in the team before he starts contributing properly.

Arsenal = 55 passes to get nowhere

Villareal = 1 pass and at the edge of our box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭Underground

Partey's passing has been terrible too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,147 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Partey and Gabriel have been pretty poor since their arrival. Not convinced by either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭Underground

Bear with me as this is a bit of a radical idea, but I think maybe we should start the second half with a centre forward on the pitch.

Partey started OK after his arrival but he's gone to dog ****e since.

Why start our most important game of the season with a formation that we haven't played since Arteta arrived?

Pretty hard to overstate how bad we were in that first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭wonga77

No rhythm, no spark no nothing.
Villarreal can put this to bed tonight, can easily see them getting another 1 if not 2.
We still haven't had a single shot on target. Arteta needs to change this up, no point in waiting till the 75th minute to do something, its now or never cause the starting 11 clearly isn't working

Partey and Gabriel were great at Old Trafford and have at best underwhelmed since

    Particularly the last two games.

Arteta needs to wake these players up, throw some water on them, get them to drink a vat of coffee.

    Himself, Ceballos and Pepe.

If Willock and Maitland Niles etc put in a load of their performances this season, they'd just be dropped.

    Although Pepe is improving.

For the life of me I can't understand why Martinelli doesn't get a start in this team

Are you being sarcastic or what
How can you say smith Rowe isn’t contributing properly ?

Quick Google says 1 goal in 10 in EL and 0 goals, 4 assists in 16 in PL this season. Whatever about potential, our attacking midfielders need to be contributing a lot more than that if we're to get anywhere.

Can we leave Ceballos in Spain please. And maybe a few others but him first.

    Sell him to Emery.

Big half for Arteta, players strolling around like its pre season, or are just mystified by this formation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,712 ✭✭✭✭Ol' Donie

Alright, bad half, but we are definitely better than this.

We can defo get something out of this leg.

    (Before we lose at home!)

An away goal here and not conceding again is the bare minimum

Gotta go all out here for an away goal, we're not getting through without one. Big 45 mins for Arteta, please don't wait til 70 to make changes

    No changes. Useless.

Such an Emery change that, Coq on for Alcacer.

Meant to say in the first half Villareal looked a bit loose towards the end. Emery being proactive with changes, could backfire if a good talking-to was all that was needed. :pac:

Get Ceballos off before we're down to 10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,912 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

How he can justify not making at least one change at HT I have no idea

Are we allowed make changes without injuries before 70 minutes though?

He's told Ceballos if he doesn't start playing well, we'll end the loan deal early and he'll have to go back to Real Madrid!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭wonga77

How can management possibly look at that first half and be happy enough with what they saw to not even make 1 change? It's baffling altogether

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,766 ✭✭✭farna_boy

    No changes. Useless.

Take Ceballos off for **** sake before he gets a red. Not because of any particularly bad challenges but how easy these lads will go down to try to take advantage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

Arsenal's place in the ESL under threat.

I dunno either. Villareal coming out super deep to start the half though, should be chances with any kind of competence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,147 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Odegaard has done absolutely nothing of note tonight either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Emery inviting the pressure on as per.

  • Registered Users Posts: 714 ✭✭✭al87987

Villareal backing off hugely here and inviting us onto them. We need a striker if we want to take advantage

Think it was Torres for them got a yellow for nothing, every dribble should be at him.

Thanks, also Pepe, not a chance he'll score, not a chance, never going to happen 😉

For all the talk about the two of them Ceballos has been better than Odegaard tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

Villarreal playing 9-1 formation I see.

It's hardly his fault though is it, don't Odegaard, Ceballos and ESR all play in the same position?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭FixitFelix

Saka change your boots ffs, slipped about 3 times in 5 mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Definitely conceding at least one next week, so if this stays as it is, we would need 4 at a minimum. Need any type of a goal here.

Who the **** even knows at this point? :pac: I mean who would have ever put slow, cumbersome Xhaka at LB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭wonga77

We dont even look like getting a shot on target nevermind a goal, such a toothless diaplay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Useless. Has nearly cost us every knockout tie in Europe this year.
