Perfect ball across the six yard from ESR there, begging to be tapped in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,118 ✭✭✭DenMan

Needless and stupid yellow card for Partey there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭djan

As much as I've criticised him that was a 72m player calibre of goal. Damn that man loves a nutmeg!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,159 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Traore offers nothing only bullying around the field banging into people. Blatantly pushed Cedric earlier, and now bungles into Leno

Fcukkn stupid from Luiz and we are on top, concede the goal

Fcukin can’t stand him the level of constant stupidity, he’s an absolute *******.

You can’t excuse him any more

    Luiz you tool.

Luiz sent off and a penalty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,645 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

That’s Luiz all over. Brain dead.

    Braindead, utterly braindead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,159 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Harsh red. Wasn't a tackle and nothing more than a coming together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,881 ✭✭✭TimeToShine

    ****ing shocking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,645 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Should be coasting and now we’re in serious trouble because of that clown Luiz.

He’s worse than an idiot he made a very obvious decision to send himself off, it wasn’t a 50/50 he made a decision, it’s not the first time and of Arteta puts him in a jersey again after that he can walk himself

I can think of multiple occasions where an Arsenal player has had their leg clipped in the box and they have gone down and it hasn't even been a penalty, let alone a red.

That said, he was never going to win the ball, so why bother.

Initial reaction was here we go a classic Luiz howler but turns out it was a pretty dubious decision, and suspiciously quick VAR review.

Still, when the player is well past you, gotta let him go and not take chances like this.

Think it's harsh myself in this instance

Are you serious? Harsh? Would you stop

Braindead challenge. If there's 80 minutes on the clock, fair enough, take him down. No need to take him down with 45+ mins to go.

From totally in control to completely up against it. How many times does David Luiz have to do that before we stop playing him?

Once every 10 games he does this!

Why can't he have done that against Brighton when we were already smashing them?

    Ffs Luiz

That is never, ever a red card. What's the point in VAR when the people in control of both the match and the VAR itself are completely inept. Either that or they're corrupt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

Not looking forward to the second half now. Even worse that we should have scored more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

It's not a patch on his other ones, which were obvious. He never looks down as he's running either which would be a giveaway

    Joke decision

It was a coming together of two players. Luiz didn't make any tackle never mind a dirty one. Didn't pull out of him. Didn't kick him. Didn't purposely trip him. Apart from not averting his run away from the attacker Luiz did very little wrong

  • Registered Users Posts: 611 ✭✭✭bkrangle

    Penalty? Yes

Red card? I can't see how, no intent from Luiz

VAR should have overturned that decision

Doesn’t matter a damn whether he meant it or not.
He collided with their player who was through on goal thus bringing him down.
He had no chance of getting the ball.
    Penalty and red card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,491 ✭✭✭stuchyg

The red will be appealed but not much use to us in this game. Never a red for me, thought the ref was booking him for diving at first

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,118 ✭✭✭DenMan

Play with a back three now and keep the pressure on. We can still do this. COYG

Intent doesn't come in to it as a matter of law unfortunately as there's no way of reading a player's mind.

Dont shoot the messenger please, Peter Walton just advised as much on BT Sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

Don't see it as a red myself, Saka's must have been very close to a pen up the other end so.

Stupid rule cos you might as well put your man in hospital as do the right thing and try to avoid contact, same result.

    Nope

Read the post above. It’s a red card all day

He does it all the time he knows what he’s at. If he’d any brain he’d take the change of the goal going in or attempt the tackle, but no not Luiz he’s a brain fart of a player

So funny seeing them analyse this on BT.

Basically, Luiz should have lunged in and gone for the ball, and it would have been a yellow. Because he didn't attempt to make a tackle, it's a red. No logic to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,159 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

The sole of the defender hit Luiz as he ran, then he dropped. There was minimal contact and zero intent. It's a debatable foul at all.

    To blame Luiz is lazy

    Wasn't even a foul.

Not a red in my view but Luiz doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt, the man has been a premier league defender for ten years and still does stupid **** like this. A rough second half in store for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,179 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

I think it's one of those decisions that wasn't going to be overturned by VAR either way. If the ref had booked him for that initially it wouldn't have become a red via VAR.

Being an accident doesn’t come in to it, the rules of the game it’s a blatant peno. This is a rule players know, Luiz is being lazy he knows what he’s at he could have avoided it, or committed to the tackle.

Players know the rules especially defenders, they’ll know it and be coached for it but you can’t coach Luiz

He has done it on more than this occasion 3/4 other times for us. Make excuses for him

    Rules from FA Website: https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct

"Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off."

I don't think there was any holding, pulling, pushing etc.
But there was also no attempt to play the ball

    I still think it's a nonsense decision

    Gabriel on for Laca.

Yep, I thought it was harsh myself, but that ref they had on BT explained it well.

Sadly, he should have known there was no way he could play the ball and just left it. Hopefully he struggles to get back into the team now after sitting out the next few matches.
