Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ouch Dani Ceballos, that's not pretty. What a pathetic goal to concede. Sunday league stuff.

Ceballos has screwed us over... Twice.

We really are a complete disaster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭wonga77

Willian in. I've seen enough, he's not going to inspire the 2 goals we need

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Underground

    Willian? Really?

Odds on Partey going off injured?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,685 ✭✭✭✭wonski

And here comes Willian for Ceballos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,068 ✭✭✭DenMan

We must practice doing stuff like that to pull it off so well.

    this is just amateur stuff.
2 players in his eye sight he can pass the ball too, and he chooses to send it where he was no visibility.

    And now Willian. . .

Willian will get a pointless goal tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,109 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Ah it's ok lads. Here comes Willian.

We had the advantage of away goal before the free kick.

I also don't like it, but it is always called bull**** rule unless you benefit from it. Same rule for all clubs, although makes less sense with covid, if it ever made sense.

If we want to win the competition and get the Champions League, away goal is not what will stop us from getting it.

It seems very dumb that if this tie between English and Portuguese teams ends in a draw, it'll be decided by away goals from games played in Italy and Greece, with no fans, and no advantage of any kind for anyone in either game.

Looking at the replay of the goal, I think Leno should have just ran into him and taken the punishment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,289 ✭✭✭Azatadine

I just cannot for the life of me see where all of the faith in Arteta comes from. All of the evidence is to the contrary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

Heart sinks. We need 2 goals and Willian is the answer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭5star02707

Just like that it's a mountain to climb. 2 goals needed wow

Arteta's going to get a lot of shit but time and time again, it's individual errors - often utterly stupid stuff - costing us.

Do we have to have this absolute bullshït every time we go a goal behind.

and thats a wrap. may switch off and go paint a wall instead

Willian comes on and gets the assist, flips the game on its head.

I agree with you, but that rule applies to all clubs so while stupid, we just have to live with it.

There were talks of getting rid of it many times, not sure if anything will come out of it.

But being honest it is Ceballos I blame not the away rule :)

    Game on. Still good chance.

11 Kieran Tierneys and you'd be flying. They'd give anyone a game

He's probably the one positive this season, really hope he doesn't turn into Bellerin.

Willian's assist coming from a pass backwards is no surprise. :pac:

  • Moderators Posts: 8,725 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Gabriel has been atrocious as well. Not the same since he came back from covid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Underground

Even if we pull this off, we are bad and will not win the EL. Sorry.

What's happening this season isn't what was ever talked about before though... this is completely different. As it stands, you guys are looking likely to be punished for 'home' goals conceded some 2000km's from your home stadium.

Away goals as a concept performs a function. When teams don't have home/away ties, it ceases to perform that function, and just becomes an arbitrary coin clip for whoever happened to be designated which random foreign stadium.

And it doesn't even apply equally to all clubs. For instance Leipzig and Monchengladbach had to play their 'home' games in Hungary and both conceded 2 'away' goals. But the return fixtures are both still scheduled for Anfield and Manchester. That's completely insane.

More of a vent here than anything, since it's just so utterly nonsensical and illogical.

It’s a bit stupid but equally fair on both teams so it is what it is

Delighted with the result. Had lost hope multiple times during that game, the joys of being an arsenal fan.
