    Trevor Brennan should be there.

It's astonishing that there's a raft of insanely spurious and flimsy reasons for not liking p!ayers from other provinces that people lose the rag over, yet a "warrior" beats up a supporter of another province, gets his da to invent spurious tales of sectarianism to try and gutllessly wriggle off the hook, and people are like, "JeaN KLeYn iS FRoM SoUTh AfRiCa!!!"

I think you might be taking this a bit too seriously

Since Grobler isn't IQ we will have to swap him out for either Toner or Kleyn :D

    Here's my XV of players who've caused the most grief on boards.ie during my time posting here;

and sure the bench, why not

    16. Rory Best - #notmycaptain
    17. James Cronin - honest mistake/I don't buy it/could happen anyone/got off scot free
    18. Rodney Ah You - LOOLLLL
    19. Jean Kleyn - again, not his fault he got picked
    20. CJ Stander - I DON'T REMEMBER ANYONE GIVING <insert project player from other province> THIS AMOUNT OF GRIEF
    21. John Cooney - most gifted footballing half-back we have or journeyman plodder - YOU DECIDE
    22. ROG (or Sexton?)
    23. Tiernan O'Halloran - biggest injustice since the Guildford Four

    Here's my XV of players who've caused the most grief on boards.ie during my time posting here;

    1. Denis Buckley - WHAT MORE DOES HE HAVE TO DO?
    2. Duncan Casey - completely forgotten now but there were bitter, bitter rows with many people convinced he was the future at hooker.
    3. Michael Bent - nuff said
    4. Gerbrandt Grobler - drugs cheat/he's done his time/IRFU hyprocrisy/deserves a chance - a goldmine
    5. Donnacha Ryan - not his fault but a cause celebre for the tinfoil hat brigade over his last contract
    6. Peter O'Mahony - a top-quality player who nevertheless generates huge outrage simply by being picked
    7. Sean O'Brien - well, he did piss on a guy
    8. Jamie Heaslip - one of our greatest ever players, or 'Houdini', depending on your perspective.
    9. Conor Murray - head and shoulders above all his rivals, yet still generates endless debate
    10. Paddy Jackson - for off-field reasons obviously
    11. Simon Zebo - nuff said
    12. Bundee Aki - I DON'T REMEMBER ANYONE GIVING <insert project player from other province> THIS AMOUNT OF GRIEF
    13. Jared Payne - I DON'T REMEMBER ANYONE GIVING <insert project player from other province> THIS AMOUNT OF GRIEF
    14. Dave Kearney - see Kearney, Rob
    15. Rob Kearney - see Kearney, Dave

Please...he was Quasimodo compared to our bisto adonis DOC

Remember POC accidentally knocked out Dave Kearney. There was some sh1te floating around that time.

"He got away with it because Dave is not famous enough", was one I remember.

Bisto? More like Terry’s chocolate orange.

I know right? We all know the real reason he got away with putting Dave Kearney in the hospital with a wild and reckless kick to the head was because he would otherwise have missed the Clermont semi-final around the corner...

... wait, sh*t. I'm supposed to be taking the piss here, damn it.

I'm not into conspiracies but... Irish citing commissioner let POC off because Lion's captaincy was around the corner

I always found the “it’s cos he’s good looking!” argument a bit odd, tbh. There’s plenty of lads who are, eh, not so easy on the eye who copped dogs abuse as well.

Well! The Tiernan O'Halloran calls for Ireland have finally stopped. Phew!
Regardless of the selections, provincialism always comes into play.
We argue on here like a couple of dingos scrapping over the carcass of a 'roo.
Us posters, we are the future. 😆

In most people's defence, Brennan's hey day was 15-20 years ago. A good number of posters on here wouldn't have had their first shave when he was playing. He wouldn't feature on a lot of lists purely because people don't recall him.

His omission from Leinster/Ireland was a cause célèbre for some to stick the boot into the set ups at the time. He was a very good player who wasn't quite as talented as other options but Irish rugby never harnessed his ability quite properly.

But that in no way excuses his behaviour. There was a not insignificant number of people trying to defend him at the time and blaming the supporter involved which was utterly embarrassing. Brennan should have been in front of a judge for what he did, not a panel. It was not in a match. It was not on a rugby pitch. I find it incredible that the ERC even reduced his sentence.

Irish/Leinster Rugby never harnessed his ability on pitch or his potential to market/grow game off pitch.
But yeah it doesnt excuse what he did. there were mitigating factors but in no way can it be escused.

    Anyway back to present times.

IRFU exploring "other options" for the time slot that the Fiji tour would have taken up.

That's a real shame, would have been good for the game in general. Can understand why it's off though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

The statement reads like they hope for games against someone, somewhere! There's a good number of young players who could put their hand up for selection with the Lions away.

Well it's going back a long time but Trevor Brennan was always a major point if controversy on here as well as in real life.

There's a few sides who dont have games confirmed so there is options available

Yeah. We need to visit there more often. Would be nice if NZ, Aussies travelled every year to one of the pacific islands pre rugby championship for a game or played them home/away every second year

Probably be financially more beneficial if the played NZ and OZ and share the gate receipts.

Probably but the attention the New Zealand game got in Samoa few years back was incredible and there needs to be more of these games even if the financials are better with games in Australia/New Zealand

Well at least we will be able to have a look at some other THP options in July provided we get a couple of tests.

Who is there? Tom O'Toole and Finlay Bealham. Anyone else? Marty Moore and John Ryan?

Does anyone think Sexton might retire now that he’s missed out on Lions selection and had 3 HIAs recently?
