Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Russell is picking up so much time in the middle sector, but losing it in the first.

It was the same in quali yesterday too.

Indeed. People forget that RUS is both a GP3 and GP2 champion. He is a serious racer. He has been languishing in a Williams at the back for too long.

    Back-to-back champion as well.

You can spot the Lewis fanboys from a mile away :D
I'd love to see him in a RB.

Good few of the most recent races, Vettel has been put on hard tyres when everyone else is on Medium/Soft.

Wonder if it's his own choice, or the team.

Verstappen reminds me of LeBron, his recall of a second or two of action is insane.

It's not as binary as you're either a fanboy or an antiham.

Meanwhile impressive tyre management from Lance Stroll.

Not sure how anyone can defend Bottas after this. Another awful start and losing time to a guy who is racing for his first time in this car.

Aside from his performance this weekend, which has been flawless so far, you just get the feeling the George is the kind of guy you want in your team. He seems cool as a cucumber, and without any ego.

Win or lose today I think he has guaranteed his future with Mercedes.

I swear Latifi is always among the fastest in the speed trap.

It’s clear he has raw speed, just not a whole lot else.
Speed trap on a straight is probably the least useful thing to assess a driver.
Latifi keeping up with the midfield today and the previous two weekends suggests that the Williams isn't as bad as people think it is. I wouldn't say George is some sort of Hamilton-esque talent based on his Williams performances - he rarely has good Sundays.
What engine is in that William? At a circuit which is 75% full throttle.

Still much that can happen here,

Let us see how the first pit goes for both.

Mad for Russell to come out just behind his own car.

I wouldn’t be against this track being a permanent feature on the calendar to be honest. It’s been great fun.

See this is a narrative I don’t like. People are using Russell to diminish Bottas, and in turn Hamilton.

It takes a top tier talent to do what Russell has been doing despite the obvious physical disadvantages he has in that car.

Read my post, I didn’t mention Bottas and I described Russel as “very impressive”.

My heart almost skipped a beat when Russell said no power

And the last weekend... and the weekend before that....

No Hamilton and a new track is a big factor.

That has worked out very well for George, that is some increase over those stops.

Russell might wan to be careful, he's smashing Bottas lap by lap, no need for it.

    8 seconds.

After a lap where he was having power gremlins, that’s incredible.

Bottas lost a ton of time on the pitstops. Joke.

Really is looking like it's going to be a Russell win here

Jesus this is really showing Bottas up badly.

Boring Merc win on the cards... Oh wait, come on Russell, bring her home!!!

I actually feel for BOT. He seems like a nice bloke. But he is outclassed. It has to be hard on him. If George wins that will be a big kick in the teeth for him.

Absolutely, but you were given that car for the weekend after having spent the last 2 seasons in a Williams, wouldn't you be tempted to do the same? :D

His recent **** you to the media was a turning point for me.

He is an average driver in an amazing car

Bottas has closed the gap by 1 second since his pit. Now down to 7.5 behind Russell. Lap 55.

Could be virtual safety car now with Latifi out.

    Ferraris pitstops are shocking

Russell is now 3rd in leading laps this season behind HAM and BOT. Farce.

    Perez having a brilliant race

Ferrari look like they really don't care anymore. Vettel's stops have been 4.5 and 6.5 seconds

Perez making a mockery of every managerial decision made against him this year.

You think with Ferrari not getting the car right this year that they'd at least get the pitstops right. Vettel let down twice today.

Fair play to Pérez. Back up to third after the incident at turn 4 and 2 pitstops.

Was just thinking the same. It’s mental to think he probably won’t be on the grid next year

Absolute disgrace if Perez isn't on the grid next year. Miles ahead of Albon and Stroll.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,041 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Disgraceful that Perez has no drive for next year.

Up into 3rd now, after pitting on the first lap.

There’s clearly a problem with Russell’s car. He’s dropped 3s to Bottas in the last few laps since the pit stop.

Was it maybe mostly down to VSC? I'm hoping but there's still a tenth here and there going missing.

Might be strategy, let BOT take some life out of the tyres so RUS has more left for the end when it matters.
