02-12-2020 10:27pmThe Radio forum charter states:With regard to radio programmes, this forum is NOT for the GENERAL discussion of the presenters themselves, but for discussion of their programmes and their presenting styles. i.e.: topics such as TV shows presented by them, books they may have written, etc. don’t suit this forum.
Physical Adjectives like "fat" "oily" "greasy" or whatever will result in action. However, we generally won't action opinions on style like calling someone "boring" "smug" or "pompous", but we reserve to right to action these where deemed appropriate.
Nouns like "git", "asshole", "bore" will result in action as will vulgar language (or substitute words such as "cnut" or "pr1ck" used to get around the boards.ie vulgarity filters). So, it's ok to call someone boring, but not to call them a bore - yes it may be a crap system, but it's the system.
None of the mods are strongly pro- or anti- these shows or their presenters. We like a bitching session as much as the next man. However, this is not pub banter, comments are available for everyone to see, for the foreseeable future.
One of the forum moderators alluded to the culture that has been let fester in the forum when they stated:I see your point, but I sometimes think that when people say this, they are taking the forum more seriously than it deserves.
Most of us here are sh1tposting, and I actually feel sorry for any of the broadcasters who read it and take the (sometimes exaggerated) criticism too personally. Just look at the Liveline thread - it's clear that most posters are just there for the laugh.
Imagine the opposite, imagine if everyone here was only posting to praise the programmes and the broadcasters, wouldn't that be boring? We do sometimes give credit where it's due, I think the official rule is that if you say a bad word against John Creedon, we chase you off with our pitchforks.

All thanked by a forum moderator.
Then you have the bizarre alteration of presenter's names by the gang. "Woke" McDermott, "Herr" Duffy, "Bryan" Tubridy among others.
The forum has been hijacked by a clique who are only interested in abusing presenters. This clique are being aided and abetted by moderators that seem to enjoy the abuse. Any questioning of the clique is met with accusations of trolling or being a vested interest in RTÉ. The forum is completely out of control and is an embarrassment to Boards and a potential legal liability.
Only tonight a poster who dared stand up to the gang got permabanned from the forum.

I have to agree ..
I tried to defend Ryan tubridy and the toy show !
All I get is ‘your trolling’ ...
I wasn’t ... absolutely ridiculous.
What’s the plan for an independent mediator to review these bans ?0 -

He has also been called a prick,a weirdo, likened to a pedophile(jimmy saville) a creep, a dick among many other libellous things.one of the posts was reported but as expected nothing was done, infact the moderator is in the thick of these comments,so he obviously condones it.its the type of drivel and vitriol this site is known for,but this is way over the line.the cowards hiding behind their keyboards posting these disgusting comments need to learn that they wont ne getting away with it.we have logs, screenshots and links ready to be emailed to the ryan turbidy show and indeed r.t.e itsself,we hope they do the right thing.the owners of this site appear to think they can get away with anything.....they cant, and they wont1 -
That forum is toxic, some posters use it as their personal blog site and have way too much time on their hands and want to get the last word on everything.
Agree with your moderation comment, too inconsistent where they infract new users for the slightest thing but for the established soapboxers on there nothing happens them if they do the same thing.
So not a very welcoming place (from mods / regulars), hence why it has only a handful of regular posters.1 -

Apologies for the delay in approving a number of posts. I have not approved posts which were challenging individual sanctions. There are separate processes for that0 -

The first step when having issues with posts is to report them. If that does not result in what you consider appropriate action the next step would be to try and discuss concerns with the local mods via PM. Have you gone through these steps OP?
I do appreciate posts from the forum are reported. I've had a quick glance through some of the reports (it's not easy to search for some of the specifics mentioned by the OP) and can see that some have received specific mod actions. Equally I accept that some may not have been actioned, but again I'm not sure if anyone has taken their concerns up with local mods
I'm not looking to downplay this as an issue, and I would agree that on the face of it the examples quoted do appear to be contrary to the forum charter. However I would also encourage posters to report things. If everyone hopes/expects someone else to report something there's a fair chance no-one ends up pressing the report button.0 -

I can't report posts, because I have basically abandoned the radio forum for all of the reasons listed above.
I used to be a regular reader and poster (I actually got asked to moderate at one point, much to my shock!) but it has become a total circle-jerk of nastiness and personal abuse of the presenters, and life (mine anyway) is just too short and otherwise miserable these days to be dealing with that!
I just happened upon this thread on the main page and thought I'd throw my 2c in - i don't mind if you approve this post or not, I just wanted to make my POV known.1 -

I've posted nearly twenty examples of abuse that were thanked by a forum moderator and you expect me to report it to those very same people.
To make it abundantly clear: I have zero confidence in the radio forum moderators. The forum is broken and has been for many years, going back to when the late Marian Finucane was being abused for her breathing on air by some of the same gang that are currently abusing Joe Dufy, Ryan Tubridy, Ray D'Arcy, Ciara Kelly, Eoghan McDermott among others. From yesterday:
"D'Arsey"
https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=115542529&postcount=2565
"Herr Duffy"
https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=115551363&postcount=3704
The moderator has no problem pressing the thanks button. It's quite clear they don't regard the comments I've highlighted as an issue.
Boards.ie is skating on thin ice with some of the things being posted in those threads, the comments I have highlighted here are on the milder side. The moderator does not seem to thank the more libelous things though I would suspect does not action them.
You can do what you wish with this. I'm not engaging with any of those moderators. It's a ticking time bomb until somebody referenced in those threads take issue with what is being posted about them.1 -
The same small group have taken over the Liveline thread as well..It seems you are not welcome there, unless you are anti Joe/liveline..If you post anything positive, you will get "Are you new here?" From one of the regular posters. The thread mod takes part in this anti liveline posting. It seems to me the group that post and have taken over that thread, can post what they like, and are immune from mod warning etc..Its a disgrace what is happening to the radio forums..Surely this small group, and the mod,are not bigger than boards.ie....1

I too find the tone of a lot of the radio threads to be excessively negative. I know there is no law that everyone has to be positive, I know that people are entitled to express annoyance but the dominant tone of many 'popular' threads is one of derision as to the ability of the presenters. I took a stand against this on one particular thread and am frequently and continuously accused of working for the show or being a fanboy of it. I looked at one particular thread before writing this and all recent comments are declaring how bad the presenter is. All of them. It doesn't hold water that shows which are at the top of Listenership charts would be listened to by an audience of people who mostly think it is terrible, so why do the threads appear that this is the case?
My personal hope would be that threads would join the discussion on a topic being discussed on a particular show as well as about the production quality of the show and the presenter of course but it doesn't seem to work that way.
I know one frequent poster on a popular thread, with posts along the lines of those referenced above has previously said that they have written to the station of at least one presenter and asked that a particular presenter be taken off the air. I have them on my ignore list but to see them frequently post in the manner they do always makes me think that they are using the threads for a purpose for which they were never intended.
In terms of moderation, it is a difficult task, but, that being said, it is a role which needs to be done and needs people familiar with the threads to be able to moderate appropriately.
I have been frustrated in this respect and had one particular experience a couple months ago where I reported a post which specifically referred to the presenters of a show in a negative way, 90 minutes later, that post was edited by the poster to have an additional offensive word added to it. I DM'd a Moderator to let them know what had happened and that it was clearly intentionally being done to be offensive which was contrary to the charter. I didn't receive any response to my DM and the post remains on the thread and was widely Thanked by others who are frequently complaining about the shows presenters.
I know if Mods are asked do they want to continue modding, many will say No, and I can understand that, but the mod process and its effectiveness along with the Forum charter does need to be considered as is being requested here.1 -
I presume that the radio forum will continue to be as it is?.I have seen posts suggesting that Ryan Tubridy takes meds up his nose, and coke mentioned..How long more will this be allowed? This has gone beyond a joke!!1
