Kilkenny used to be just Smithwicks under a different label for export. Is it different now? Haven't drunk it in years.

Is that right? I know it used to taste like a smithwicks with a guiness head.

I've never seen Kilkenny on offer, but ya its a cracking drink

It was great at first but I think people got bored with it. Certainly the drinkers I knew.

It’s definitely different to smithwicks. Kilkenny is like a red ale stout where’s smithwicks red is just red ale. I think Kilkenny is nicer.

Kilkenny and Smithwicks were always totally different drinks as already mentioned.
Perhaps Smithwicks was exported as Kilkenny (as that's where its (or at least was) brewed), but the Kilkenny we know here is most definitely different

    Yeah Kilkenny.
Nice stuff. Cafferys was a similar one. Murphys had a red available in the UK. Maybe closer to the bitters that they have there.
Shame these beers never got popular here.

Yeah I remember the Caffreys. Really lovely beer but by God ‘‘twas like mother’s milk. Supremely moreish and quite strong as I remember. You could neck the pint in two visits to the lip. The nitrogen bubbles made it very easy.

I think Witherspoon’s here do a lot of the English ales. And obviously quite cheap too.

Might be a nice exercise to rate the line some evening.

All the Irish in Australia drink Kilkenny.
It is much better than Guinness (doesn’t travel) there.
Think I might go get some for a reminisce.

I think they’re the 280 ml bottles as had been before but open to correction.

    Still not bad.

Lidl we’re doing 24 x 330 bottles for 17:70 before Christmas. That was a cracking price.

Anyone know if they will stock Stella again.

They are 284ml or half a pint in old money.

I got that Lidl offer worth watching out for again.

That's excellent:- prior to new regs it was a deal to get it @ 4 for €10 so actually better than pre regs price as you don't have to buy 4, however you can buy 5 or more at the same price ðŸ‘

Ooo haven't had this in a while - if you were to choose between Molson and Tenants as a cheap can, which in your view would be better? Tesco still have Tenants for €1 as well

Molson is ok, a bit bland , colourless and tasteless , tenants on the other hand is awful, has a weird taste a bit of colour and gives a shocking headache. I’d go with the tenants. More fun.

I love Tennents, and find it better than most mass market lagers (probably because it's still brewed in the original brewery in Glasgow).
