My local Tesco had the 470ml so its hit and miss on the 500ml.

The Guinness cans in the first Tesco I tried were 470ml, but they still had the drop / delivery date sticker on them which was 28/11/2020 so old stock. Depends on the stock levels of the old stock if they have the new dropped 500ml cans.

I went to a larger Tesco and they had the 500ml new stock in then.

Tesco Clearwater only had 470ml last night, but Tesco Express at Beneavin had the 500ml.

Was it a shortage of widgets or a shortage of Guinness. Since March, James Gate stopped brewing except to keep the yeast culture true. They are now back in production.

didn't they say it was a shortage of widgets?
was there a suggestion the beer was being brewed somewhere other than Dublin - I though SJG brewed for the whole of Ireland and UK these days...

Yes they used Covid as an excuse for the shortage of widgets. They had someone on one of the radio programs

8 x 500 ml Smithwicks red cans are €12 in Tesco, Supervalu.
(It's about €2 off the usual price for that pack)

Tesco have 4 x 500 ml bottles of the full Smithwicks range in their 4 for €10.

I picked up a couple of 8 packs of Smithwicks (cans) in Dunnes last week for €10.80ish each. That's the best I've come across.

I am a Smithwicks fan myself, the bargains on it is always few and far between.

Obriens offlicense do 5 of the 500ml bottles for 10 euro , i find it a nicer taste than from the can.

If u have a code to go shopping in Musgrave cash n carry, I have seen a 12 bottle pack of smithwicks red for €20 but then u have to add the 21% vat at till but still think it will work out cheaper than the 4 for €10 bottle deal in most deals, I prefer the blonde, that’s almost impossible to get a pint of that in a bar, really annoying.

They get a card for themselves and one for a family member. 10% turns to 20% from today for a week or so.

And no it's their card or the companion card that needs to be used. Borrow it ;-)

what price would be become good value to you?

10 is about as low as it ever goes. Can't recall it going for less and if it did it would have been snapped up in an instant and likely low volumes.

If you don't like the taste then fair enough, a lot of the cheaper own brands are made with "wine" and some whiskey. That wine is typically cheaply brewed sugar water.

I was getting 2 bottles for 15 bucks a few weeks ago in dunnes

I picked up some Guinness & Heineken - didn't see any slabs of Hop House, might pop up later and get some bottles.

It's great value especially when I'm used to buying Brewdog 330ml 4-packs for around a tenner.

Tesco's trick seems to be to bump the prices right up between Christmas and New Year's - they did this last year anyway. No offers on slabs.

Yes last year once Christmas Eve was over there was zero deals up until March or April, well worth getting as much as you can now.

    Dream on...
I tried to order 12 bottles on the site, but they only have 6 in stock. Freight looks like €36 to the North, no RoI option, so they are cheaper here, and a lot less hassle.

    Yep, a v nice Rioja.

If buying a few bottles though Tesco have 25 percent off any 6 bottles including miniatures. So you could get Cune Rioja Riserva for 7.50 a bottle.

    Did my annual stock up.

Heinekens were best before October 2021 and all so I'm grand for beer up til then :D

edit: I also noticed that they've put the boxes (20 x 330ml) of Hop House and Corona from 15 euro back up to 18 and 20 euro respectively. And Rockshore is now 20 per slab not 2 for 35.

Well you have the price now, since they didn't publish it in their leaflet, knock yourself out.
I swear I've seen them around €10 all the time.

Aldi have 18 hop house for €24 all year, I pick up a slab every 2 weeks with the shopping.. it's rarely anywhere else in a slab, I picked up a box of 20 bottles from Tesco a few weeks ago for €15. Don't know if they still have them at that price.

Will stick the head into aldi so. Thanks

Gunpowder is a great deal, think that's normally around €45-€50 but unsurprisingly sold out when I checked.

How sweet is the Tanqueray ? I hate when flavoured gins taste like alcopops. I like subtle flavoured gins like Boyle's raspberry blush.

It's not very sweet at all. The Whitney Neil ones are full of sugar but the Tanqueray is light. Was given it with ginger ale in a pop up gin cocktail bar in Newcastle and loved it. Even my beer and whiskey drinking friend has taken to it so definitely not overly sweet.
